Paint change then Alsa is the way forward. Personally I would get it wrapped by the guys at Paintshield - they have wraps that have a painted finished that can be machine polished and waxed. Less than half the cost and reversable if the next buyer wants to go back to the original colour.

A quirk with wrapping a car is that even though the car is then a different colour, you do not have to inform the DVLA as the original colour has not been changed. With a respray you have to inform the DVLA to update their databases!.
I am pretty sure you do need to let the DVLA know.....:O?

When I was getting the protection film applied to my RS60 a few weeks ago at Paintshield they had a Red 360 CS in there that had been covered completely in a White Metallic wrap - it looked absolutely stunning and if they hadn't told me it was a wrap I would not have known easily.

Do people wrap perfectly good paint jobs? If i were to buy a car with a wrap, i'd be suspicious of the paintwork under it. I'd be happier buying a car in it's birthday suit (birthmarks'n'all).
They do if they fancy a change in colour that's cheaper and alot less hassle than than a respray. I've not had a car wrapped but have read that the paintwork is unaffected when the wrap is removed and that it can help protect the original paintwork from unavoidable driving marks such as stone chips.
I've had a few friends wrap their cars and did so to actually cover-up stone chips rather than to protect from them..
Also not all wraps are removed successfully. On many occasions laquer damage has resulted in having to get a full respray (so not always the cheapest option). No companies will guarantee safe removal of their wraps afaik.

I'm new A friend of mine recommended I join pistonheads so here I am.

Now I'm looking at a 355 that is very good value for money, but it's the wrong colour so I'm looking at respraying it red.

Now somebody recommended Asla Automotice I think it was and he looks very good but is really a bit expensive. I was hoping to get the car resprayed for about £3k. Anyway I was wondering if anyone could recommend some reputable companies to do it, preferably in Scotland but I don't really mind if it's not.
Alsa did a paint change on my 348. From metallic black to flat black. Great job and i wouldn't give my car to anyone else. He even did my calipers, changing the AP Racing logo to the Ferrari logo and painting them red.

Only downside is that he's quite far away in Wales, but I used to get regular pictures of the work done that day so I knew exactly what was going on. Got around 350 pictures from him I think.

He's also really busy these days and he's always got Ferrariu's being worked on.

PS. He gives a 10% discount to Club Scuderia or Scudrunner members.

The DVLA classify a vinyl wrap as a temporary colour change and therefore do not require notifying

LMAO Alsaautomotive expensive? put down the crack pipe mate? Al is one of the best in the business and his prices are amongst the lowest, what more do you want? maybe a 12 grand respray that is kraup? if so i can point you in the right direction.

less than half the cost of a respray, are you sure about that? the figure to wrap the car is pretty much the same price unless tom's reduced his price

I was toying with changing mine from Rosso Corsa to Rosso Scuderia but it doesn't somehow seem worth the cost for just a different shade of the same colour.
What happened to going white? I know you mentioned that ages ago when I photoshopped it for you. Looked bloody good!

Don't remember ever thinking about white Jonty, and I definitely haven't seen any pictures of my car done in white.

If I ever (which is highly unlikely) had a totally different colour change on mine, I would go for the very bright royal blue that Fiat did on the Coupe.

It seems completely bonkers to consider respraying a 355 to red unless the existing paint in very poor condition - and that's why you would take a hit come resale time. Two thirds of 355s are red anyway so buy a red one. You're not going to save any money (precisely the opposite) painting a non-red car.

yuck Can't say I like that. For some reason I can't put My finger on, it makes it look more like a kit car to Me confused (not that it matters, different strokes for different folks at the end of the day).

[quote=burriana]Any serious damage would be picked up in a proper PPI.[quote]

Sadly - not always the case - find the thread on the Porsche forum about the 997 GT3RS I purchased from a OPC - which had been rolled at a trackday, reshelled outside of the OPC netwrork with Porsche GB and Germany's assistance - but this wasn't identified.

I have learnt to my cost that PPI, HPI and the Porshce 111 point check is worthless.

The mettalic tended to look like dark grey and the flat black looks much btter.

Only downside is that it gets dirtier quicker and picks up a scratch when you breath on it. Seems like that anyway.

Blimey - my apologies, I remember the wheel retouches but had totally forgotten about that. Hmm, not sure it works on the 348 like it does on the Testarossa.

Not normally a fan of white cars, but that looks strangely appealing!
