I've been pondering a change of direction in car buying but I've never really settled on anything, until now.

I've done the Ferrari / Lambo thing and something has been niggling away at me for a while, a feeling that all the obsession with speed and lap times is somehow irrelevant to using your car on the road.

I've thought about more GT stuff like F612 or Aston, even Bentley, but they just don't excite me for some reason. I've even though about ditching the whole fast car thing and going for luxury, Flying Spur or Range Rover even, but I just know I'd be bored within days.

Now in a strange moemnt of clarity I think I really like Spykers!

I know they are not the fastest but they are fast enough, and that's the whole point, they have style!

Or do I need to go and lie down in a darkened room?

Completely Off Topic - but this is why this is my favorite section of PH. I love the fact that people actually get to make these decisions. It's a nice problem to have.

On Topic - I've yet to see a Spyker on the road, so you'd be doing PH'ers like me a favour by increasing the chance of seeing one on the road.

If it's any factor .... I was in a large specialist dealer who had a Spyker in for part-exchange on a SLR roadster and they couldn't get a single underwrite for it . Presume they are difficult to dispose of .

I love the things.........used to be one fo teh official dealers a few years ago and many a hppy summer afternoon with thr roof off in one of the very early C8 Spyders.

I think the new ones made in Coventry are a much better put together piece of equipment especially in terms of body work and general finish.

Don't buy it for speed.......but do buy it for a massive sense of occasion........and a stunning noise!

all the boring stuff : costs, resale, insurance, reliability, parts supply, repairability
i'm not saying that there are issues, just things i'd want to research especially thoroughly with such a rare beast

Hi there,

That refers to Bob Forstner / Excalibur Cars who have a showroom that has recently opened on Park Lane.
The showroom is run by Tommy Wareham who used to be the Spyker specialist for Broughtons who were/still are (not sure) the official Spyker agents here in the UK.

The website is here (although not much Spyker content): -

http://www.bobforstner.co.uk/

see this thread for more details: -

If its any consolation if was you I would definately buy a Spyker in preference to a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

The C8 Laviolette is stunning

To me its hideous.

There isnt one angle that I think that car looks good from.

Its rare and apparently very well build but they are the only plus points I can think of.

What about going for a classic? You want sense of occasion, older stuff must be hard to beat. (and no, I'm not refering to cack brakes, shoddy stearing etc etc)

I love them, we did a lot of engine calibration/certification work on them at my last company so I saw a great deal of them. The interior is fantastic, all quilted leather and turned aluminium added to that they sound superb, much better IMO than the 360 we had in for comparison, a deeper note not as tinny (sorry, I couldn't think of a better word and it could have been a duff exhaust).

As for your problem no longer enjoying the Ferrari/Lamborghini thing, I think I actually understand. I was in the position to buy a second hand DB9 or similar but didn't, I just couldn't convince myself that, once the novalty of it had worn off, I wouldn't enjoy it enough. I think that for me the same applies to most modern machinery, the ultimate speed may be there and it may well be a blast to drive at or near the limit, but for the majority of the time, the level of driver involvement will not be any different to a Fiesta (but with the benefit of a wonderful soundtrack). I think this is why I can't bring myself to part with the XI just yet, it may only have 83bhp, it may be relatively slow, but it's a blast to drive at under the legal limit.

Seen a few at Le Mans the last couple of years! They are fantastic cars! (especially the GT racer).

Photos don't do them justice, the presence of these bad-boys are crazy!

Having had a fairly short drive in one, I cannot say that I was hugely impressed, the interior and soundtrack are superb but I could not get on with the floor hinged pedals(my feet kept sliding up them), the brakes were poor, the build quality varied from superb to rubbish and it just did not seem all that quick.
To me it was a bit like a very expensive TVR.

To me that looks fantastic! Just noticed the wing mirrors, they are a bit weird I have to say!

But hen I just can't get my head round the looks of Pagani, to me they look just wrong from every angle.
