Nearly closed the M1 today all those open mouths out side lane one F40 right behind, me in the little old Viper GTS cool run for 40 miles.

Great looking car, but no room to play far too much traffic.

Its a shame there was tooo much traffic. But maybe it was a good thing since it saved you the embarrassment(sp?) of getting ur ass handed to you.

Im still yet to see one in the flesh, still hoping for the day.

I've seen two in the flesh and one on the M1 fairly recently!

had a couple with us heading down to le mans last year. My passenger (Psychobert) caught it on video as they undertook some nutty overtaking.

We stopped for a beer with them at Alancon and admired the beasts.

viper paul :- what are the specs on your car, out of interest ? Is it std ?

I've just been doing a quick trawl (out of curiosity) of the net (ahh, dangerous !) for specs on the F40 and Viper, and this is what I came up with :

F40 : 201 mph / 478 bhp / 424 lbft / 2425 lb / 429 bhp per ton

Viper : 190 mph / 500 bhp / 525 lbft / 3476 lb / 316 bhp per ton

Now, please feel free to correct me on the Viper's figures, coz I've probably picked up the wrong model or something (some Vipers were even listed as 400 bhp or 460 bhp ... huh ? different models ?)

But assuming (ass=u+me!) the figures above are true, then the Viper is nearly 50% heavier than the F40 !

Changed exhausts and inlet tubes/filters and drive pulleys to ancillaries normally makes about 500 bhp.

I hear what you are saying pure race car v street car not much of a contest however F40 figures are on song ie both turbo's spooled up which has some typical 90's lag the Viper has the 500 ft/lbs from nearly tickover.

Different cars=different problems, let me close in saying that after two laps of Silverstone in an F40 as a passenger it is and will always be my favourite all time car......does what it says on the tin!!!!

I know what you are saying Paul, comparing turbo'd horses with cublic horses ...

I went from a 240bhp 2.0 turbo Nissan 200SX to a 255bhp 3.0 V8 Ferrari. On paper, similar speeds and similar performance. But I could easily beat the 200SX in the 308 without even thinking.

The 308 gives you all of her power, all of the time, no matter what revs or gear you're in. The 200SX, well, if you didn't get that turbo spinning JUST right you'd either bog down in a turbo-less hell, or just light up your rear tyres with way too much boost (and still go nowhere).

When you got it right, it was electrifying, but if you weren't concentrating, or were just in day to day traffic, it was pants .... the number of times I'd pull out (say into heavy traffic on a roundabout) and then think "oh, he's coming a bit quicker than I thought !" only to floor it and get ..... nothing ! (In the end I got quite adept at dropping the clutch a touch whilst already rolling, just to get the revs up the range and into turbo territory quicker)

Nev
p.s. F40 round Silverstone, you lucky g*t !

There is talk of an F40 going to the next Brunters V-max day, you could come along in the Viper and see how you and the razzer go on. Plus you get the chance to see how yours compares to lots of other quick cars

dont think you have to worry about bruntingthorpe.

Since its another "nothing can beat my viper" thread, I would be interested to see one at Brunters next time.

Well a load of Vipers took part at 'Ten of The Best' - a similar event that featured a lot of performance machinery (from Porkers to Skylines etc etc). 500m drag races, handling course etc.

Check here for the results

Sorry don't think its a nothing can beat my Viper thread, in fact I take exception to that.

In reality if you read the thread its in homage to the F40, MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE CAR, and what a pleasure it was to run with it.

Yes I drive a Viper but I really try to admire other peoples cars, from the humble Saxo to the latest Lambo.

Why is it when ever you say something positive about your car your accused of slagging the other one off.

Just my ten cents.

it was this comment that made me chuckle thats all.

OK so I was a bit harsh in suggesting the thread was "look how fast my viper is". Its clearly not and its to make mention of a wonderous Ferrari that will remain a sight to behold. Accept my apologies on that front - bad morning.

in all seriousness though, and this thread perhaps didnt start out that way, but whenever I read posts from those with vipes its all about "arse kicking with my 600/700/800 bhp viper". I agree they are quick cars, and personally i like the looks as well. I have never seen a Viper owner say "i was surprised how X/Y/Z stayed with me/was faster than me" etc.

We are all loyal to our own brand, but there is always something quicker out there.

If you mean the grey one then yes it looked fantastic. The one with the silver decals was a bit ott for my tastes.
