BRUTINGTHORPE 2012
Discussion
No, there are no times.
It is intended as a fun day for ASDA staff and their families not a track day and anyone treating it as such will be disapointed and probably thrown out.
Last year it did seem to be getting quite 'interesting' towards the end of the day when the testosterone and confidence levels were at their highest but please don't expect it to be about lap times when it's clearly aboutfrightening the wits out of giving a good time to members of the public to raise money for charity.

Having missed last yrs due to selling the Atom, I'd like to partake this yr if possible. My Ultima Can Am build is going well and it should be on the road by the summer... let me know if there's a spot for us
I'm sure Steve'll want youbut Mark can you possibly get whoever you sold the Atom to to bring it along as last year 50% of the public on Steve's gate wanted to go out in the only Atom available until the second Atom turned up after lunch and went on another gate then 70% of the public on Steve's gate wanted the Atom
Who actually organises the gates BTW? The only critisism I have is that last year I had a gate which was way down the back, single file out onto the track mean't there were long delays between rides. Any chance of a gate near the front, quicker turnover of rides will mean more charity cash and less queue time for the popular Atom.

That'll be me then, only Atom for the whole morning made for a very busy start. Fortunately I had Mattt as my second driver (that turned into my main driver after about an hour).

I was running from a gate very near the front, often took ages to get back to the gate through the single file mess, so I don't think it makes much difference.Who actually organises the gates BTW? Oh, thought I was the only one there until lunch time, till a red one pulled up behind me, then headed off up the front (think it was a Atom 2) was that you?
Seriously though, the parking at the gates was not an issue, those that needed to roll past to get to a gate further up had a slow drive up past on the right side. But being near the back gates meant we were always pulling out and stuck at the back of a long queue with a lot of other cars at the gates further up just filtering in to the single lane queue at points relative to their gates. Early afternoon people in the queue were being told to consider a ride in something else as the turn around time was so long...

Andrew Steve's gate is supposed to be a bus stop operation where by the passengers are supposed to get in the next car not pick and choose - but that's not how real life goes is it
your Atom accounted for a third to a half of the queue at times but the crowd was regularly made aware that they could wait a very long time for a car of there choosing or just into the next car that comes along straight away (subject to them being the next number ticket of course) - I know this for absolute certain as I was the one telling them trying to dreate a bit of humour whilst at the same time making them aware the queues waiting for you were of literally of their own free choice
we can't always see when you pulled off track or changed driver so could never be quite sure of the Atom's time or availability on the track, you could be as you say queueing to get out, even to get in, somewhere round the track, changing driver, off to get petrol or off for other reasons
as I said the Atom queue knew there was a long wait for it as they were regular told
as you know there's a limit to how many cars could be on the track at any time so the popular Gates had queues just that the queue for you couldn't be persuaded to go in another alternative car, many times cars were without a passenger at single runs because the queues wanted to wait for a particular car, their informed choice
this is why I tried to persuade the other Atom driver to bring it to Steve's Gate (I mistakenly thought it was for Steve's Gate anyway) because it would have perhaps halved the queue for your car which was the majority of the queue waiting
just the logistics and extra time of getting a passenger into a car with helmet and harness adds to the queue time but I don't see a way round this, when things are very popular there tends to be a queue and as long as the passengers are made aware of this and it's first come first served I think that's as much as can be done - unless a group of Atoms are all at just one Gate so the passengers know where to go for the Atoms and can then choose which engined or colour of Atom they want to wait for out of the choice available
what must always be remembered is that this is not a commercial concern where things can be strictly controled and resources ordered and delivered all are volunteers offering their time and presence on the day and of course the drivers also their cars

As long as I have a go in a Scania truck this time, I'll be happy. I'll bring another driver to do most of the rides.
I thought you had another driver last time you can come and go as you wish, need your track neckpiece for another car obviously if your car's off the track as it means another car can go on but it would be great if your Atom could keep running as it would please a lot of queueing people

That was me, and I was meant to be on Steve's gate, however due to my complete lack of organisational skills I'd forgotten which gate I should have been running from except one run by Steve, so I ended up running from a gate up teh front run by a bloke called Steve.Tyre Tread said:

Not for the rest of us? It'll be somewhere near the wifes birthday, and she loves TVRs (especially Tuscans), but never been in one yet, this would be a great present for her.
