Can everyone on here that has expressed a preference to do Dream Rides please contact ASAP on bazfirth@talktalk.com. I have the packs ready to email out and need your contact details. Please be aware that the Sporting Bears now need confirmation from your insurer (email or letter but printed off and with you on the day) that they are aware you are doing Dream Rides.
Hi Baz, I'm getting a bounce back from your email too but I'm definitely coming and happy to take part in the dream rides bit. Spoke to my insurer and they're not sure what it is you need in writing as the certificate will show I'm covered (so long as it's not for "profit") which doing it for charity isn't.
Can u clarify what you need, or provide some wording etc for me to forward onto them?
They're already aware of sporting bears and have loads of clients that take part but this is the first they've been asked for something in writing.
Really looking to this event now.
For anyone thinking of staying down there... Goodwood House hotel has some nice offers on!

Me too Baz, put my name down for passengert rides on the track so need to know what my insurers need to know and what you need in return..
And me Baz, I get this:The message has not yet been delivered to the following addresses:
<bazfirth@talktalk.com>
host talktalk.com[205.178.189.129]:
connection to mail exchanger failed with timeout
What exactly do I need to tell the insurers for both track and dream rides? Also, I presume I am required to get track day insurance if I am giving rides but is the passenger covered? Finally, are there helmets being provided for passengers? also, not had any email from you about timings, meeting points, etc.
This is my first one of these, so apologies if I am getting over excited!
For those who are querying what information is required from your insurance company reference the Dream Ride event for both the Goodwood day on the 4th June and any other future events through the Sporting Bears, perhaps I could help. I have just received a letter from my insurance company clarifying that I am legally covered taking passengers in my own car for Dream Ride events. Do bear in mind to tell your company what you intend to do with the Sporting Bears reference the Dream Ride events and give them some background on the club to show that you do not benefit financially in any way. I do know that some will not cover this, and that track use is not covered anyway.
The letter reads as follows:
We confirm that your policy covers voluntary driving, including carrying passengers for which mileage allowance may be received, provided such expenses are claimed on a non-profit basis. The policy also contains a clause indemnifying the agencies with which you are a volunteer against third party claims arising from the use of the car on such voluntary work.
They also said that as long as I'm not financially benefiting from taking part, then I am allowed to carry passengers and will be covered in case of any incident.
This all comes about reference another driver carrying a passenger in a past Dream Ride event and being stopped by the police. On producing his insurance documents, they found that he wasn't covered under the terms and conditions of his policy - we all know what the consequences are when you're not insured on a road-side stop.
As long as your insurance company can send you a letter clarifying that you are legally covered, then you just need to show this to the organisers on any Dream Ride event.
As for the track rides at Goodwood on the 4th June, the vast majority of insurance companies won't cover you for track use anyway, so you'll need the relevant cover for this.
I hope that helps anyone looking at getting clarification from your insurance company.

SPORTING BEARS DREAM RIDES
How the Event Runs
People donating to the charity collection at the show will be offered a free demonstration passenger ride in the car of their choice.
Cars taking part will be presented at the show offering a number of rides. These will be allocated by the Rides organisers.
Passengers accepting the offer of a ride will complete a signed disclaimer acknowledging that liability is limited to normal passenger insurance cover.
The Rides will start and finish in an area inside the Show. This area will be controlled and marshalled by Sporting Bears members. It will also be the display parking provided for the cars taking part.
The Rides take place entirely on the public roads. Drivers will decide the route they follow and are expected to drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws including speed limits.
There is no competitive or timed element to these demonstration rides.
Drivers will not receive any reward for providing the rides other than the thanks of all concerned. They will play no part in the collection or management of the charity donations.
All the money raised will go to the children’s charities agreed by the Sporting Bears Motor Club
Drivers are expected to obey the instructions of those marshalling the activity particularly in relation to the movement of cars.
Dream Rides are organised and run, as an official event, by the Sporting Bears Motor Club who are registered with the MSA
The club has public liability insurance cover of £5 million pounds
Sporting Bears have a recognised Child protection officer and relevant policy and procedures in this respect.

Hi all,
really excited to be coming down to this event and helping Sporting Bears Dream Rides, to clarify the points.
Insurance - Baz has aleady listed the points to tell your insurers above, so that they can undertstand that road going Dream Rides are no greater risk than going to the shop for a loaf of bread. It is advised that the activity is clearly stated as Sporting Bears Dream Rides as several insurers such as Footman James, Peter James and Competition Car Insurance will instantly know Sporting Bears and confirm cover.
The cover is no more than the wording provided above or the phrase Giving passenger rides as part of the Sporting Bears Dream Rides activity on the public highway. Track cover is seperate and is negotiated on a policy by policy basis generally and a seperate conversation.
Drivers and passengers, please be assured that although the wording in the above letter is from an insurer, this clarifies the legal position on expenses for the policy. The fact is that every driver receives lots of thank yous and smiles but not a single penny, from donations or admin or expenses. This means the membership for Sporting Bears members allows he club to operate under the protection of Public Liability cover for the show and produce a quarterly club magazine. We all volunteer our time, fuel and hotel bills to enable the childrens charities to receive 100% of the public donations.
So while at PGA on Monday, enjoy the track cars, enjoy the static cars, enjoy the Dream Ride cars, enjoy he helicopter rides, enjoy the craft stalls, enjoy the suprise bits but most of all enjoy yourself!

Well, what can I say. With less than a week to go until Planes, Games & Automobiles at Goodwood I am proud to say that with the offline fund raising and the Virgin Giving page we are now at:
£8677 raised.
Many, many thanks to everyone for your support and generosity and for those still undecided that can make it, we now have over 170 cars attending, there are track rides and Dream Rides off circuit, helicopter flights, military band and a host of other attractions for petrolheads and the whole family :-)
For those that can't make it, perhaps you can spare a few pounds to help the disabled children and the ones that have tragically lost their parents in Afghanistan that we support

Hi everyone,
I just got off the phone to Admiral and they told me that for the Dream Rides the passenger is NOT covered, because my policy is social and commuting, and this would be classified as business use. I explained that there is no reward and therefore this is not for any business purpose, but they have categorically informed me that in the event of any accident my passenger would not be covered. The car and myself would be, however.
In order to have the passenger covered, they would want me to upgrade my policy to full business use for the entire duration of the policy, which would be over £200!
So my question is, do passengers sign a disclaimer of any sort, or would they expect to be covered by the drivers insurance, because if not then I'm afraid I will have to withdraw from this, and all other Dream Rides.
d
EDIT: I also have asked about passenger insurance for the track, using MORIS and they will only cover a named passenger, and need all the details in advance. So again, will there be a disclaimer that the passenger will NOT be covered for personal accident insurance?
