my thoughts aswel ... the Megane and M3 were both quick didnt suffer fools on the track (Megane flashed me - not good form)

not sure about the Clio

but IMO, and I didnt see the smash, but the fact there was a gaggle of 4, then next thing a smashed Scooby is abit of a coincidence
Really glad to hear occupants ok, car soaked up the impact, will have sore necks today.

I think the guy just couldnt handle letting a Clio past him. He moved across to let the Clio past and then cut the Clio off! Thereafter he was continuously & purposely blocking the Clio. His driving style seemed like he was new at trackdays and certainly good wood as his lines were all over the place and the cause of his accident, he took the wrong line in at st Mary's (straight through the corner, instead of out-in-out) and couldn't corner in time, meant wheels on the grass, loss of back end and straight ahead into the wall.

The picture above is on the third lap of not letting the clio past. The marshals were going to black flag him fourth time round (think they do need blue flags after all) and should have done this as he came round the second time.

I learnt early on there is always someone faster than you, move over let them past. You carry on less stressed and get to drive home.

Overall it was a fun day with courteous driving, indicating, lifting off the throttle, with only a few exceptions.

I'm guessing if some were getting flashed by the megane then you weren't using your mirrors enough, I doubt it would have been a first resort

almost agreed with everything there except the flashing megane ... he was trying to overtake me on the corners, there are only 3 straights there for him to overtake, and one of them I monster at 160mph in my RS 6 so he only had 2 ... he just had to be patient and I would let him past

too aggressive driving for a charity track day

Just wanted to add a big thank you for everyone who was involved in the Sporting Bears Dream Rides yesterday. I hear an excellent amount of money was raised from the very generous public who I hope had a great experience. And we can't forget those who spent months organising the whole day and putting everything together.

When he was flashing me I was behind the mclaren mp4-12c waiting for a safe place to overtake ( never thought I would be saying that) and he came up tight behind me flashing, as said a bit to impatient for a fun trackday.

Bottom line it's about everyone just being considerate of others whilst on track [and in life generally!] and then everyone has an enjoyable day and goes home with cars in one piece.

The Megane driver does sound like a bit of a to**er as you shouldn't intimidate others, especially in corners and at point of just catching them or if they in turn have cars in front slowing them down. [reminds me of wa**ers on roads that do exactly the same thing!]

On other hand if someone comes up behind you but is unable to pass on straights, just move over at first opportunity as it means over a lap they are travelling quicker than you [yes, believe it or not!] It's not clever or big to keep your foot planted on straights because you don't want the 1.3 litre basic hatch behind you not to overtake your 4 litre Porsche etc. Just live with it and get on with it as that way no one interrupts each others fun.

On Subaru, thankfully more than anything innocent child passenger is ok but unfortunately driver does seem to be "4 litre Porsche driver" in above example.Probably inexperienced at track days, lacking track driving talent [i suspect totally oblivious to this as many many others out there] and having a big problem with fact it's a Renault Clio and not a Ferrari Enzo in his mirror. If he had simply pulled over to let quicker cars/drivers through he could have immediately carried on enjoying himself at his own pace and car would have stayed in one piece. Instead of that he drove beyond his ability and combined with probably watching and worrying about what other cars behind him were doing missed his turn in and braking points etc. Seen it all too many timesrolleyes

As stated initially just a case of everyone acting sensibly, considerately and we can all have good fun on track together, which is surely what we all want at such events.

Re: Megane driver... was there not a driver briefing beforehand with clear instructions no attempts to overtake or out brake on bends/corners ??? Only done one or two track days personally, and so far that is the best piece of advice/instruction I've had yet !

Will now take notice of 'always someone faster than you so let them past and carry on enjoying yourself' bit of advice for next time.

Great event Baz/Simon - bigger and better next I hope - 105dBA - count me in !

Did I read that right? Doing 160mph around Goodwood with kids in a roadcar?

I don't think he was actually going to overtake in the corner, just making his presence known so whomever is in front could know to move over on the straight.

If you imagine the speed of your normal lap and then that of your cool down lap, now imagine the equivalent of being stuck behind someone doing the pace of your cooldown lap. Not much fun especially as overtaking spots and track time are limited.

160mph on the straight is fine but doesn't mean much in real world difference if you carry less speed through the corner and brake earlier. Certainly at goodwood... somewhere like silver stone the top end would help a bit.

Good bit of advice I had was drive at 90% you have a much more relaxed and fun day and are probably faster overall as you are smoother, can concentrate better and check mirrors more often. Most of all you are safer

105db days are 5 cars at a time instead of 10 (plus more expensive circuit hire) so would mean a lower number of cars or less track time. It's a pity goodwood is plagued by moany neighbours

Just trying to offer a constructive POV

People speculate far too much. Cars crash its a motor circuit. It could of been anything driver error, car problem. Everyones ok that's the main thing. Maybe its time to move on.....

Good day all round, a few comments which could make it epic next year:

1) Better comms re passenger rides, there was a lot of confusion around who was doing what and when rides were available (not a dig and not something I was involved with but there were a number of punters on the whinge, clearer comms would have sorted that)
2) Food stands! Nearly everyone we spoke with said there was a real lack of food available, we were hoping for a cake stand at the very least! smile Much as I like the Goodwood food it¡¦s crazy money and they were not giving any of the takings to charity on a charity day (or if they were they didn¡¦t publicise it).
3) More stalls if possible... possibly not so much soap next time... seemed to be all you could buy, my friend got very excited when he saw a cake stand and it was cake shaped soap.... he had the same issues with the knitted cakes... Basically CAKE! Oh and car related stuff would be good.. Autojumble (just a thought)???
4) Better position and sign posting for the frankly awesome sporting bears rides, I found them too late frown
5) More control of children, I saw many a sprog clambering over cars when the owners were not about, a friend was deeply unimpressed with a small child hanging off the wing mirror of his Exige ¡V possibly some signs?

Generally it was a good day out and one I will be supporting next time round, I WILL have a car ready to go on the track next time too! Well done to all involved, a cracking effort and great to see a decent sum raised for charity. smile

I think if the day is run semi open pitlane as normal. The people paying for passenger rides queue at the bottom of the pitlane (& maybe given a number) then a steward fills the empty passenger seats of the next batch of cars to go out of those doing the passenger rides.
