What is this mpg people talk about.

Never heard of it. Sounds like a myth to me!

:-p

I will transfer the route to an ITN file for those using tomtom over the weekend.

just seen the pdf, great stuff

Simon and gang,
from it some more notes (and a couple of reminders) for you –

Day 1

.Stopping point - West End Café 15-17 Broad St, Llandovery –
there’s a public tarmac’d car park dead opposite the café, around the castle ruins, you’ll possibly see coaches in there but there’s loads of room for cars too (it might be P&D I can’t remember and it has toilets)

. three virtual pints of beer from me if whilst in Llandovery you can locate and photograph the Red Lion – no internet searching before, during or after the tour and no asking the staff in shops or pubs but you can try asking on the street smile

. a cultural note – Rhandirmwyn is pronounced Rhandi – wymin so if you can’t find what you’re looking for ask anyone in the area and they’ll be able to direct you

. Llyne Brianne way is the Devil’s Staircase

. Bala High Street gets busy so I wouldn’t go into Bala unless you really have to

. Evo Triangle - I can’t comment on as I always return to the mountain roads, I’m told there’s a tea stop on the B4501 west side of the road just before the Llyn Brenig Visitors turn off

. Gilder Arms,
their food was more than reasonable but you might have to book
do take a bit of time to look around at the pub's grounds and lake, it doesn't take long and if it's the same couple running the place as two years ago then the landlady is quite proud of the grounds
those that stop there let me know if you think the rooms are small

Day 2

. Stopping point - Harlech Castle –
there’s a small P&D car park next to the Castle, if you park there don’t turn right out of the car park or you’ll go down a steep, narrow, twisty short road (to the A496 to the left on this road is the Branwen Brasserie & Bar with off road parking the Castle is just above it, the pub was clean and tidy when we went in last year, the Castle wasn't bad or the ice cream from the café across the road from the Castle)

. Bala High Street gets busy so I wouldn’t go into Bala unless you really have to

. Evo triangle – same notes as above

. Gilder Arms – same notes as above

Day 3
. last chance to look round the pub's grounds and lake if you’ve not already done so, it won’t take long

Hi chaps, looks a great trip. Hope you guys have a lovely time.

I've just done something similar and wanted to make a suggestion. Given that your numbers are manageable, you may want to rent some walkies talkies. They are hugely useful on trips like this for all kinds of reasons. The most important one being: "Attention! Police car (!), cyclist, tractor on-coming". biggrin

Oh yes I forgot about this.

I have two walkie talkies. So if anyone else has any bring them along.

itn navigation files for your tomtom.

Extract the zip and then copy the files onto your tomtom and then you can load it as an itinerary.

great tip but don't bother with cheap ones as they soon go out of distance range but somehow always manage to pick up other walkie-talkie transmissions

and don't let anyone very talkative have one or the batteries will soon be low biggrin

Bugger. The iPhone TomTom app doesn't support .itn files! So I've gone and added some key points as "favorites" on my phone which I'll need to manually switch on if I get lost.

If anyone has a spare walkie I'd be happy to grab it and try it in my car but not sure how much I'll hear with the roof down! smile

Hi all. Having only recently joined the forum thought I would submit a quick post before next weekend. Really looking forward to it. Not just for the fantastic looking roads (and being able to put the S3 through it's paces!!) but also to meeting some new faces. Rich, I have to take my hat off to you after reading the thread, on how much time and effort has gone into organising this event. Will be heading up from Oxford on Saturday a.m. (very early doors!!) with TackMEU. Hopefully will be joining up with you around 9:30-10:00.

Looks like we are due a bit of rain over the weekend but it should just be the odd shower and not spoil the fun!
