PH May South East Gathering - 13/05/14
Discussion
Thank you to everyone that came along the other night & for peopels patience/understanding in getting parked up...It was our first trial run at the Aerodrome so they could a) See what we're like with regards to our behaviour b) Get a handle on the kind of numbers we can bring forth each month.
To say we were lucky with the weather is an understatement, we could see the clouds coming right for us, then at the last moment shifted east & we appear to have had the meet in what can only be a micro climate within the aerodrome!
My apologies for having to have everyone spread, unfortunately this is the space we were limited to on our first occasion...I'm now pushing for air side access so everyone can be together rather than spanning 3 car parks...But due to limited capacity & high numbers anticipated (Which the rain made a siginificant dent in), we had to have people "spread" over the limited space available.
Ps! Helicopter rides are going to be a regular feature - It's a great chance for those who struggle to get a pass from the Mrs/Girlfriend to drag them along also & earn some serious brownie points...The last thing any wife or girlfriend will be expecting is to end up going up in a Helicopter above the Surrey countryside when they arrive to a car meet! Pricing will be at circa £55 per person via EBG Helicopters who were the presence there on the night.
Ps! To give a little background as to how we manage to wrangle all of this...My company is one of the tenants at the aerodrome, so we get a lot of flexibility & willing as a result

I don't think it was the fact that everyone was spread, it was the kind of 'elitism' of cars all in the central area. That pic of the old mini next to the Ferrari at the Grasshopper...that 'vibe' just wasn't there.

Elitism doesn't happen at my events as many know, as I say...It was our first event at the aerodrome. However from a diplomatic perspective, there are certain hoops as the organiser you NEED to jump through for a new venue to be "happy" to host an event with our kind of numbers, not to mention the expense involved. What a lot of people don't know is that there were a number of individuals milling around the event yesterday that run the aerodrome that wanted to see what calibre of cars were brought down (& they aren't necessarily "Car" people)...It's a small sacrifice to ensure a long term home for the event & more flexibility for future events
You have to remember that the aerodrome has a lot to offer us, a sizeable (& fun) perimeter road, a long straight, 2 cafes, a vast array of planes/helicopters for us to gawp over in future...But as the organiser, it's a difficult balancing act & a master class in relationship building to ensure something like this can happen without agitating a lot of very influential people Ultimately the aerodrome is VERY excited with the potential of the event (Think mini "Wings & Wheels" every month) & when I next meet with them, I'll be receiving more feedback from them then.
The old vibe should be back at the next one when I can put everyone together as now they've got an idea of who "WE" are as an event & more importantly, that we overall made a very good first impression & THAT is the key thing.
Back soon with next months event.

Highlight for me was the Lotus Sunbeam
Good taste that man! Shall pass that on to my old man! He'll be please to hear it was appreciated!
Always next time
There was a huge amount of interest in the Bentley from staff as well as visitors. So hopefully talking to them helped things. In the bar and cafe there was a lot of "love the Bentley" from the staff.
Gawd help them next time, when it is a bit more stripped/race prepped!
Usual big thanks to Umair for all the effort.

I wasn't moaning btw...I hope it didn't come across that way
Thanks for organising Umair! The new venue is certainly interesting, although I did like the Grasshopper Inn a lot! It would be fantastic if we could have some fun on the perimeter road
You can find some more of my few snaps here
Here's a taster:
If anyone has any pictures of my black MK2.5 MX5 I'd love to see them

Great meet, couldnt bring the Westy as the roads were in flood in Coulsdon at 6:00pm so the Mini came out. I'm sure the venue will be fantastic especially on a warm Summers evening. The Grasshopper was a great venue, this is different. Without wanting to sound like a snob I really hope the meet keeps it's emphasis on 'special' and enthusiasts cars and doesn't end up looking like a Tescos car park! (Says the man who turned up in a Mini Cooper S! ) Would be a great opportunity to ask some traders to come along to tempt us with their wares? thanks again Umair, looking forward to the next one.
