I want to do something along the lines of this;

http://www.sceniccartours.com/swiss-alps/457978082...

or this;

http://classictravelling.com/alps-tour/

Can anyone recommend any good tours and or routes?

I'm a little anxious about booking a group tour with people I don't know.

Not really a problem per-se as I have been on a few group trips trips by myself (Central Asia, Japan etc) but this time it would be my girlfriend and I.

She's 21, I'm 28, we will get on with most people, but somehow I am imagining a group of 65 year old MGB drivers!

Or maybe We should just book a couple of hotels, and set off ourselves...

Scenic Car tours book our trips for us, we don't do their standard ones but give them a rough route and they book all the crossings and hotels for us. They get us some great discounts on the hotels and take any hassle away from us. I'd highly recommend them from my experience. We are groups of 6 or 8 though so I'm not sure if they'd do it for one car.

I do have friends that have been on their organised tours and yes, it does sound like an older group but you do your own thing and can participate in the group as much or as little as you like. You have a day to get from one hotel to the next and you do it how you wish.

Petrolhead Nirvana are more"convoy" type tours and have a bigger mix of ages. I've done a few tours with them and they are excellent, great fun on the best roads and you'll make some great friends. Everything is arranged for you, even your parking and check in at the hotels.

In fact I've got two tours planned for the summer, one with Petrolhead Nirvana and one with Scenic Car tours!

Well, as someone who is definitely in the "older group" I can recommend Scenic Car Tours. We did their 12 day trip to Garda and Stelvio last September and had a great time.

If you get on with other people you won't have any trouble. As long as you get to the set hotel at night then you can do what you want during the day. The evening meal is really the only time that you "have" to mix with others in your group and you soon find out who you get on with and then if you want you can eat with them every night. I would recommend it.

I spend months going over maps, route-finder and hotels via the internet and plan the whole thing myself. For me the planning is half the fun.

Another vote for Petrolhead Nirvana here having Toured with them every year for the last 4 years biggrin Though have to say that Scenic Car Tours site does look very comprehensive and interesting !

One of the good things with PhN is that they have a monthly meet on the 2nd Monday of month at the Ace Cafe North London where you can meet the team and plenty of people that have done the tours and likely meet some of your fellow tourers before you go which is a big bonus in my view smile As i see you are in Essex like myself you should pop down to the meet urquattrogus and see how you feel about the whole thing before making any decisions biggrin

What are you driving by the way ?

Thanks for all of the usefull hints guys smile

I think I would like to plan it myself, but I've just started a new job, and I'm mega busy with that.

I like the idea of the tour but not having to convoy all of the time.

Also trying to understand what the tours are like, as I would probably like to take my 66 Alfa Giulia GT Sprint, and that goes pretty well, but would need to be worked hard to keep up with a real convoy hoon....

Plan b would be to take my M135i with satnav and cruise control and sat nav, waft along and the attack the odd road properly smile

I'm sure ut would be much more of an adventure in the Alfa, you certainly seem to make friends with lots of people in that car smile

Girlfriend is a bit sceptical about reliability, but its pretty well sorted, I've done some long ish trips in it. 150 miles in the alfa in one day will feel like a long trip, but the same in the BMW will be barely noticable. Hmmmm, know what my heart says!

A tour in the Alfa will be something you remember for ever.
You'll have good time in the BM too but it is just not the same.
There is nothing like touring in your classic.
It has to be the Alfa.
