Great news! Can I suggest a great big ad on the PH homepage and a banner on all the forum pages?
This is what it needs! I said it a few pages back and eybic hasn't responded. Why isn't this the number 1 thing on the PH front page at all times?

ETA: I see he now has replied to you RossP.

Unfortunately our CMS doesn't enable us to keep things at the top permanently but we are getting things in place so PF is a permanent fixture on the site.

I cannot believe PH sometimes. On this site I have read some of the best things ever written but also some of the worst. Now I don't know Eybic so I am not here to defend him for any other reson than I like to see things from someone elses point of view.

Imagine for one minute that your boss has come to you and said 'I realise you are really busy with your day job, but I want you to take on the organisation of this event for which there is no budget (probably), nothing agreed in terms of venue/attractions and we want you to drum up attendees whilst ensuring it costs Haymarket absolute squat. You need to ensure that all EH&S bks is in place and that every eventuality is catered for. Oh and by the way you will get a lot of sarky comments from some clever dicks on PH (not aimed at constructive posters) that will make you want to hit the reply button and tell them to Foxtrot Oscar and do it themselves if they are so clever, not that they ever would/could of course. It will probably rain cats and dogs on the weekend you choose, all the cars will be stuck in the field and that too will be your fault.

I think we should all be glad that someone puts their head above the parapet and takes the initiative to organise these events, because I bet most of the clever dicks on here wouldn't do it. If that person makes mistakes then by all means constructive criticism/assistance would be welcome to them I'm sure, but to post comments and pictures that add nothing but give the poster a warm glow of superiority is just crass.

I organise a regular run out for a motorcycle club. The run takes a lot of planning in terms of venue for lunch and the route taken. I try to include different types of road to give something to everyone, twisties, fast bits, slower bits, country lanes, quite bits, longer sections, shorter sections etc. You really try to please as many people as you can. I spend a long time planning/amending the route and drive it many times (at my own cost) to ensure there are no planned closures and that I know it back to front. Without wishing to blow my own trumpet, I have had many positive comments and thanks on each event, however on one of the lunch stops I heard someone say "I thought we'd never get here." This was said by someone who has never, ever, took it upon themselves to organise feck all for the club to which he belongs, but is happy to sit back and let others organise it for him and then complain about the bits he doesn't like.

Agreed on all levels.

I have been trying to help the PH team point out that it was hard to find the event etc, i hoped that i had been constructive and not a neyseyer and bringer of doom!! wink

Now perhaps all of these posts, may make the event more visible and talked about, to drum up some attendance.

Why don't we all see what we can do to support the event, and get your names down so that it becomes an event to be remembered for all the right reasons? smile

Unfortunately, you've missed the point.

Bear in mind the BTaP debacle that preceded this and cost PHers money in non-refundable bookings...

PF was advertised with a date, a location and a higher-than-expected price, but no details of what would actually be happening, because nothing had been planned. Despite constant promises to provide more information, nothing appeared for a long time.

Yes, I agree that organising events is a drain. However, I think Haymarket/The PH Team/Whoever have taken the piss by relying on the good nature of PHers to stump up cash for an event with no details. I'm sure if Dunlop hadn't stepped in with sponsorship we'd have soon seen a "PF cancelled" post.

It's poor organising, it's taking liberties with your membership by expecting them to stump up for something because you say so and I'm sure the "PH's Got Talent" feature is borne out of a dearth of alternative ideas.

Where the buck stops is down to Haymarket to work out, but if PH want people to continue to attend their events then doing the membership the courtesy of properly organising them would be a good idea.

An alternative example - do you think paying 5 Euros to have two warm stubbies of beer poured into a plastic cup in a field in Le Mans is good value or good organising? Me neither.

No, YOU have - This is NOT Eybic's day job; this is something he is doing on top of that because 'WE' have asked for it.

Yes, it's a fiasco, but he's not an Events Organiser, nor a PR expert.

My mistake - I thought he worked for PH, and PH were "organising" this.

He does, but that doesn't make him an Events Organiser or PR Expert!

Then you can see the obvious mistake that the PH management have made, right? And why so many people have been left feeling utterly unimpressed by the whole thing?

Apologies for the selective quoting and this isn't aimed at you, but if eybic isn't, then who is?

PH is a big brand these days and Haymarket is a big company, so it probably wouldn't be unreasonable to expect a dedicated resource would it, even if that resource has cross-brand responsibilities?

O/T but did you know that iPad auto-corrects 'eybic' to 'Sybil'? laugh

Edit - Looks like Flange's post echoes mine but I was eating my lunch and (mis)typing one-handed, so he got in first wink

I mean the management of a community of car enthusiasts, yes.

If you're going to advertise an event at £50 per head, have an event to advertise.

Luckily they've always got the sycophants to fall back on, eh.

There isn't one AFAIK

Why would a Magazine Company have an events co-ordinator? They have an Exhibitions department, but they are not employed to organise a piss up in a field to shut a few forum people up

Just noticed one more thing that might help.

Looking here on the events calendar, its seems to be missing from the list on the Saturday, but the PH SS on the Sunday is there.

I know it is being promoted now on the headers etc, but it would help to add to the calendar that is visible to all.

Oh dear, another poster that really has no idea

No idea of why Haymarket own PH (and it's not for the forums!)

No idea what sycophant means (FYI I posted the meaning yesterday, it's right up at the top of this page)

Now run along back to school and learn the big words before using them

Looking at the ticket booking site it says the following:-

"Like any PH event, its success is dependent on the PHers that support it. Bringing back PistonFest is no different and we need at least close to 300 PHers to make the event viable. The venue have given us a date to confirm our booking of 31st May, 2014. By this date we need to be well on our way to reaching our target figure."

I suspect we are a very long way off the 300 figure, and well into July now too.

Does this still have a bearing on the event going ahead?
