We have finally succeeded, Lowestoft Gas Works Road, June 21st 2014, 04:36

We were totally impressed about the amount of people being at the seafront at Lowestoft, greeting the sun after the shortest night of the year, alone or with their families, many with a glass of bubbly and their cameras. An intense feeling of satisfaction overwhelmed us, I have to say.

An edit is kinda pointless now that it's been quoted umpteen times wink
It wouldn't make much odds to a judge - who cares he was doing 76mph average.

It is no different to me 'admitting' that it was me who pulled the lever that dropped Saddam to his death.

Battle scars, Lowestoft Gas Works Road, June 21st 2014, 04:50. The car had been detailed before the journey...

Nice reminder.. ta smile

Wonder if the police will be becoming more vigilant on this route now that it's becoming a 'thing'

I imagine the police will start to be more on it. But I also thought about doing it this year

Not sure whether to do it in a car or on a bike.

Or maybe this;

Presumably, to "enter" this, you just be there for sunset?

Edit: Possibly a bloody obvious question hah, but since it isn't an "official" thing, I thought I'd ask.

Yep, pretty much that.

The staff in the café place at Lands End were very cool with us and let us set off from nearer the cliff top away from the main car park, where Clarkson started from, as long as we promised not to drive like idiots on the site.

Quick bite to eat and a cuppa and be in the car ready by 9:36!

I did it in 2013, it was certainly a night to remember.

According to the interweb, the summer equinox is at 1638gmt on Sunday 21st June. Doing the drive on a Sunday may not be convenient for some people so wondered if anyone would be doing it on Saturday 20th. The sunset and sunrise times are the same. Sun sets at 2121 and rises at 0443 both days.

It's cool that the cafe are ok with it!

And I think Saturday would be the more popular option, though I will be booking Monday off work regardless! Haha

careful of the M3 if anyone is going that way, 50 mph average speed cameras and narrow lanes for about 15 miles from Fleet services to the M25

You have to be careful that you are not deemed to be organising "a motorsport event".

For these, you have to be part of a MSA affiliated club and you require a permit to run the event that gives you the all important blanket insurance cover to protect you, as the organiser, if anything goes wrong.

Otherwise, you could be prosecuted for running an illegal event and if anything did go wrong, your assets could be seized as damages. So, say goodbye to your house.
Define "motorsport event"?

Why the ridiculous scare mongering?

If people want to get into a group & drive around the roads they are perfectly entitled to do so.

There are hundreds of non MSA events every year.

The MSA is not a law agency.

I am defiantly on this, been promising myself for years, and finally got the car I want to do the trip in and it's my b day the next day (22nd), so it's a must this year.

What this about the cafe ??

I think the Saturday would appeal to most people, me included. I'd still probably need to book the following Monday off work, though!

has anyone done the Scottish equivalent? Google maps says 5hr 50 from Ardnamurchan Lighthouse to the port in Peterhead, and with a sunset at 9:21pm and sunrise at 3:32am it gives 6hr 11minutes of night. Needless to say, the roads on that route are far more interesting, but would it be hard to maintain the required average speed?

Google maps says 5 hours 47, so seems feasible. Too far norf for me though
