On Your Marks - Asda Charity Trackday - Bruntingthorpe
Discussion
Hi all,
Dad and I are members of Sporting Bears and have been invited to drive on track at the above event.
However we have a couple of questions as this will be our first time going:
1. What track cover do people buy? Obviously normal road insurance isn't applicable. Do you need Public Liability Insurance for carrying passengers?
2. How much track time do you actually get? With 340 cars on offer, we're a bit hesitant about paying out for insruance and fuel getting there, then doing nothing at all! Can anyone explain how the event is run?
Many thanks!
Phil

Phil this is nothing like Sporting Bears Dream Rides - no real paperwork (that I know of anyway)
AFAIK this is NOT a public event, everyone has been invited to attend including the drivers and the passengers
there are "gates" that operate a bus stop system, i.e. passengers waits, sometimes a very, very long time, for the ride they want, the passengers are not petrolheads so go for the cars that the general public find popular and will rarely be persuaded to go in any more interesting cars or with better drivers - unless you have a good looking, charming, informative and persuasive person on the gate like me, but I ain't going this year
the passengers are supposed to go out in the next car that arrives but the vast majority wont
if there are more cars to your gate than lanyards then that can get awkward as your not allowed on the track without a lanyard so it depends how organised or not that gate is

I have driven my R35 GTR there the last 3 years - I have taken 25-30 passengers every time and it could be more but both I and the car need resting during the day!
The GTR gate has I believe been the busiest for a number of years, but if the weather is passable then demand for rides outstrips supply at most gates.
I am missing it this time as I am away - shame!

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback all
I assume people just go and line up at a gate that's free, then pay for a ride? Having looked at videos of previous events I've noticed where the 'Bears' are parked, then other clubs/groups, all with their own gazebo/tents.
Anyone got any pointers in terms of what insurance is needed/ who can provide it?

Phil,
the passengers go to the gate with the car(s) they want to ride in and can be queueing there for a very long time
forget how the Sporting Bears Dream Rides are organised and administered as at this event it's a simpler system with a lot less organisation and administration
I think you must be confusing another club with the Sporting Bears as the Bears have never been to this event as a club although there have been Bears members helping out in the past and as drivers but as individuals rather than a club

I think is a new gate this year, next to the Rally for Heroes one.

That's great to hear! We had a blast on track, certainly look forward to next year
I saw a number of photographers around the track, anyone know who they are/where the photos will be?
We raised £1080 for gate 11, despite a high rate of attrition on the cars! I saw a number of photographers around the track, anyone know who they are/where the photos will be?
I've found this set of pics on Facebook (public) - https://www.facebook.com/mark.woodhouse.125/media_...
And this set from the GTROC - http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?threa...
There was also this guy who I spoke to, but no galleries from the day have appeared on his site yet. - http://onesnap.co.uk/oneSnap/Welcome.html
