London to Brighton Veteran Car Run - 2nd November 2014

It's that time of year again. 433 pre-1905 cars will gather to commemorate the abolition of the red flag man, the raising of the speed limit from 4 to 14mph and the Emancipation Run of 1896 with their annual 60-mile trip to the seaside. With the exception of the war years and the petrol shortage of 1947, the run has been held without fail since 1927. This year's older entrant is an/the 1888 Truchutet 4hp, while better-known marques like Benz, Daimler, Vauxhall, Peugeot and Renault. The variety of vehicles extends to three-wheelers and steam-driven and electric cars. Other entries of interest include a 1903 Panhard et Levassor Model KB Phaeton - the 18th car to be registered for use in Madrid, a 1904 Panhard et Levassor driven by Ben Ainslie and a 1904 Thornycroft driven by Steve Redgrave.

Hyde Park - 07:00-08:30
Lambeth - 07:10-09:15
Norbury
Croydon - 07:35-11:00
Redhill - 07:50-11:30
Gatwick - 08:00-12:15
Crawley checkpoint - 08:15-01:45
Hammer Hill - 08:15-02:15
Cuckfield - 08:45-02:30
Burgess Hill - 08:55-03:00
Clayton Hill - 09:00-03:30
Preston Park - 10:00-04:15
Madeira Drive - 10:05-04:30
On Saturday 1st, it's the Regent Street Motor Show which will feature 100 of the veterans which you can view close-up. This runs from 10:30-04:00 and is free to attend. One of the vehicles entered is a 1902 Toledo steam car which is one of 14 still in existence. There should also be some classic motorcycles present to promote a new European event planned for 2015, as well as 'performance cars, family cars and racing cars', although of what vintage I don't know.
Both are great events, especially the Run, which I've been watching from Croydon for 12 years without fail.
