Driving standards at Sunday Services

Goodwood every year
On a serious note though, I hope I'm in the majority that actually behaves more than usual when attending something like a Sunday service. Not only is it polite to the venue owners, high profile motoring events generally encourage the police to have a higher presence in the area (take Goodwood breakfast clubs suddenly the speed cameras are everywhere.) but you also have a lot of expensive cars on the roads leading to or from the event and I don't want to ruin there day and put a dent in their car. Plus the added fact of a lot of people on foot around a venue and then as these are public venues the image that you want to portray of enthusiasts enjoying cars and not misbehaving.
Plus from 1 person messing about we all end up getting the bad reputation.
Yes I totally agree don't buy a car beyond your budget that you can't afford to fix....On a serious note though, I hope I'm in the majority that actually behaves more than usual when attending something like a Sunday service. My dad simply put the throttle down and lost traction from his 40 ish year old car on a damp road and lost traction because unlike the 911's and other cars he doesn't have traction control or driver aids.
Is your dad Chesney Hawkes?eybic said:
We shouldn't have to do that, everyone in attendance is an adult and despite us asking people to keep their speeds down, they ignore it.
We are not the Police and won't be taking notes of everyone's reg number but if the driving continues as it was yesterday it won't be a worry as we won't be able to hold the events any more.
We use 'Quiet & Slow' boards in PR sensitive areas on stage rallies so why shouldn't you as PH do the same? Rally drivers know they should keep it for the stages, but I've seen some dreadful driving from crews trying to get to a control on time and they do massive damage to the event's reputation in the same way that these show offs do for PH venues. We are not the Police and won't be taking notes of everyone's reg number but if the driving continues as it was yesterday it won't be a worry as we won't be able to hold the events any more.

Appears to be the Escort owner mentioned earlier, although pretty sure he was on his own in the car.
Yes that was my dad, who says i was with him? He is allowed to drive in a different car to me.I'm not here to condone speeding, and I don't know what speeds people were going on the latter part of the exit road of MBW but I was stood by the hotel. The Escort was certainly revving a lot but there wasn't any speed - he was only 10m or so behind traffic from the photos I have
Both of these were at 1/60s. Now I accept that they are at different angles, perhaps only 3m apart on the road

The Porsche was caning it ! Look at the background blur
As was the r35 which was probably faster than the porsche

FFS, this thread really has dragged out some right
This.^^^ 100%Opposite where we hold the SS is The Brooklands Hotel.
Imagine that you are a jet lagged businessman just flown in from wherever and you have fought your way round the M25 on a Saturday night in a minicab piloted by a man who insists on telling you the history of his thyroid problems. (why do all minicab drivers have that?)
You crash into your lovely bed looking forward a good nights sleep knowing that all will be peaceful on a Sunday morning.
Then you rudely woken up to discover a car rally outside your window. Now that might be bad enough but then every time you possibly drop off again, some tt canes it round to 8000rpm just to try and impress people who in the real world probably have a better car than he does.
I would imagine that £169.00 a night you would be ringing down to reception fairly sharpish. And who is the hotel going to complain to? MB World. And where does that bounce back too?
For Christ's sake, show some consideration for other people guys. Especially when the people who have taken the time and made the effort to organise the event, who are from a website that you all clearly like, ARE TELLING YOU SPECIFICALLY NOT TO DRIVE LIKE ttS.
Apologies for the way this thread has turned out - all I originally intended was to gauge the consensus on appropriate driving standards at these events. I believe that has now been achieved, and this now serves as reminder to PHers what is expected of them in terms of driving standards at PH events.

We are discussing PH events here, not the wider issue. Elsewhere, people's dribving standards are a matter for them and the police. Not to say you aren't correct, just that that is not what is under discussion here. The Hypno-Toad said:

Hi guys,
I'm the Senior Instructor at Mercedes-Benz World heading up the events for the Tracks and I have the privilege of working with Nathan and the rest of the PH team putting the Sunday Service on at our site.
In terms of driving standards, given the number of people attending it's extremely high and it would be a disservice to all of the amazing people/vehicles that attend the Sunday Service events to say that it was the majority of attendees because it's not.
At the end of the day I'm a racing driver / petrol head and like a lot of you if I see a straight bit of road my IQ can dip and my right foot creep down a bit further than it should. All I would say to those that do find themselves in this position is when attending a Sunday Service event please remember that you are in a controlled environment with a huge number of static vehicles, pedestrians and street furniture and it's simply not worth an incident occurring for people to realise that it's probably not a good idea to be doing 100MPH irrespective of the vehicle you're in. Keep the speeds down in and around the sites you're attending regardless of whether it's private land or not and people will continue to embrace all that is PH.
In my opinion the bottom line is it's simply a case of common sense prevailing so that we can continue to hold these fantastic events long into the future and continue enjoying the amazing array of vehicles being showcased.
Thanks to each and every one of you that attend and make the Sunday Services what they are.

I'll bet there's a bit of hypocrisy in all of us on this.
I'm 99.9 percent with the majority here - I don't want to hear another R35/911/Escort hoon up the road. It's not novel or exciting. But 0.1 percent of me wants to hear/see something more interesting do the same. Like the XJ220 that appears to have set off the speed warning indicator in the photos, for example.
The ideal is to chose venues that provide for the latter, but that rules out many more interesting venues.
