Superdeportivos Cantabria - a supercar event in Spain
Discussion
Looking for an excuse for a roadtrip? Here is a suggestion:

It is a supercar event in Santander, Spain held once a year. There's a ferry direct to Santander with a discount for attendees. Last year there were more than 200 cars in attendance.
While the event in and of itself is somewhat like others with a large volumen of exotics, one of the things I like about it is that the organization has worked with the Town Hall to organize the convoy leaving and returning from the site. There are pólice at every corner to keep our stoplights Green, and we are actively encouraged to leave the city as quickly as you can pedal. It's the closest thing to the Monaco GP that I'll ever experience! Some sort of surreal memories from last year - cruising at an honest 200 k/hr on the highway with a Guardia Civil motorcycle cop riding next to me, urging me to pick up the pace as we were holding up traffic! (true story)
The official video from last year is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiDzAcIBQbM
(That's my Pantera GT5-S that appears a few times, so I kind of like the video ;-) )
There are all kinds of videos on YouTube if you search.
Don't worry - the Spanish in the film is only for the first minute or so, and it gives you a chance to practice. The organization will have a Spanish-English translator on hand for the weekend just in case.
Want to take the easy way out and travel in a group? A friend of mine organizes tours to Spain and will be attending from England with a small convoy. Questions or need help? I've been living in Spain for 15 years now and know my way around pretty well.
(I have no financial interest, bla bla blah,)

Personally I'd love to see the Jaguar - there will be 30 Porsches, but surely only one XK140, a gorgeous car if ever there was one! Perhaps you could use this date as a goal to have the car sorted out?
A friend of mine in his gorgeous Pantera GT5-S just threw his hat in the ring, so you should be in good company
Do you need any additional info?

Their is every chance that I will go in the XK140. Already been around the Alps in it in 2012.
I did have a rush of enthusiasm straight after my posting, and tried to reserve a room at one of the recommended hotels, but no reply yet, and I did try to reserve a place at the Event itself, but seems to be a fault somewhere with "addresses" on the site, because I received a "failed" to deliver reply to my Email.
I will press on however, and sure to get it sorted.
Always ready to join in with a few others who are going. I believe in being very sociable with any other Pistonhead.
I did by the way PM you.

Hi All,
This trip sound very interesting so I would like a little more info as the link to the supercar event did not work, although I did manage to google it.
I have a DAX AC Cobra and if it qualifies as a supercar would love to consider participating.
When is it this year
What is the general format of travel/ event time/ accommodation etc
Do you organise it as a package or book individually.
I will be attending the European Cobra Meeting in Barcelona in September this year and there is a healthy interest in participation for this so there might be others interested too.

Jasper, have you seen that they just released a promotional video for the event and your car appears on more than one occasion?

I accidentally took part in this event last year, and the OP describes it accurately. I even had a police motorcycle outrider for a few miles.
I was on a driving tour of Spain, and we had agreed to meet up with a club called Superdeportivas Cantabria. I was expecting to spend an hour looking at parked supercars. Instead, when I arrived, the police had closed the road and I was directed into a lay-by, which bypassed the roadblock. As I exited the lay-by, a police officer was gesticulating to suggest that I was going too slow.
Within a couple of minutes we were going through a packed village doing 75mph! My wife was not happy, and complained that she was being thrown back and forth by the violent braking and acceleration. (Later that evening, she and two other wives came to the conclusion that they had never felt so out of control of their husbands.) We hit speeds in excess of 150mph on the public highway.
When we got to the city of Santander, the police were no longer able to control all the traffic lights. However, I did not know the route, so I had to keep up with a Ferrari F458. We were doing 70 while the city traffic around us was doing 30. It was like a scene from Bullitt.
If you fancy doing taking part, then send Jasper a PM.
