Was it your first time on track, and were you in the 9:30?
yeah the 9:35 and 10:45, I've done a few 'other car' track experiences

but been modifying this car since October all the while with track in mind,
so was a big deal to me smile
Cool cool, very tidily driven I thought. Also wasn't sure if was the same car as saw you from the pit wall on the later session. Sounded really tasty as well smile

Looks like your mods have worked a treat smile

Didn't bounce the rev limiter on the sighting lap, it was 4-5k rpm in 2nd on downshift - not throttle application. It might not seem like it, but I drove with a lot safety in mind and well within my limits. I made allowances for others potential mistakes should it happen. While my approach was quick towards cars in front, I was prepared to slow down rapidly or take another line if they didn't do the predictable. It is often safer to pass quickly if there's a sufficient gap rather than to slow right down and go off the racing line to sit behind slower traffic; everything I did was carefully observed and calculated. When others didn't yield soon enough at the end of a straight, I would take the wider line to give them maximum braking space and cornering width, whilst keeping an eye on them should they not make the corner. My mistake was picking the wrong session (as it was the only session I could do before midday) and driving like a normal track day which startled newcomers or non-track regulars - I do apologise for that.

However much you felt within your limits the speed differentials were massive and there's a few instances where clearly the car you're approaching from behind panics - in which case anything could happen. You were in the wrong session, and should therefore have adjusted driving to suit - which would have felt frustrating and pointless, and I'm glad I didn't bother.
Time to lose the IAM sticker I'm thinking.

I was on the 10:10 session in the white Renault 21 Quadra. Pity about the flags but had a hoot anyway and got some great pics and footage from here there and everywhere smile

To the yellow 911 ruf on the way home, quick car chap, sounds lovely!

I attended the day but did not have track time. But having watched the Clip and as i driver of an MX-5 when on track, i personally don't see any issue with this driving. It looked fast but assertive and if i was on track, almost regardless of where i was i would be looking to indicate and stay well right. It helped that this was a wide open track, at Cadwell etc it would have been more of an issue. Clearly a driver in the wrong session but IMO, it certainly wasn't dangerous driving.

I might have missed them, but were there no marshalls? A few blue flags or flashing blue lights would have helped the situation?
I have to agree and possibly a bit of marshalling would have helped all concerned (blue flags).... At least this is a controlled environment with plenty track width. For those a bit shaken up by a more experienced driver, don't ever consider an RSR track day, you think the M3 was quick on approach, think GT racers with rear wings resembling light aircraft, always use your mirrors but don't panic, the experienced driver will be conscious of your positioning and ability and will ensure a clear pass (what you expect on track), I sure didn't see any hassling going on, no different to what you experience on any track day I have attend up and down the country, but then that is my opinion, others may see it differently.

But anyways, moving right along, thanks PH crew for another great SS session.

Hi all,

I chose not to track my Corrado VR6 as it's a daily for me and 23 years old, but having watched many of you on the track I wish I'd given it a go.

I'm a pro tog, and took a load of shots on the day viewable here. Feel free to download any you like.

Hi Rafe, did you take any other pics of my car by any chance?

But then we both know don't we that your view would be slightly biased?

I may not be an advanced track driver, but have a fair bit of experience under my belt. Nonetheless even the most partisan of people can surely agree that if you are told strictly no overtaking in the braking zones or in corners. Then someone who is quite clearly disregarding a rule, (and let's be clear here, everyone else stuck to it rigidly) is then openly doing something that others are not expecting and should not have to deal with. And that, surely you can see isn't right?

I don't expect you to agree, anymore than I would have expected someone I know personally and consider more than a passing acquaintance to be considerate and abide by the rules on the track.

Thats all the clips I took with my phone and put into one video. So hopefully you'll be able to find some decent fly pasts. I think youtube is still rendering its gone from 360p to 480p to 720p in quality, so you should be able to click the cog and put it on full screen.

lovely day and the weather co-operated in great fashion.

thanks to Silverstone and the PH staff for hosting the event. I had a great time out on the 10;45 session, of which i will post footage a bit later.
MX5 performed superbly, nicely ballasted by the Mrs sat next to me. Im sure that cost me a couple of seconds per laplaugh

Shame about you guys and the Porsche, we were out after they cleared track and on the second open lap i had cars three abreast going over the dust just in front of meyikes

Good drive from South Bucks in the morning too, we caught up with a supercar convoy through some of the local villages, infiltrated by a local police car, though to be fair he seemed to enjoy the NSL sections.biglaugh Cood to see the locals looking and waving as we went through as well.

Biased because I know the driver, shared track time and a number of other drives knowing all to well his ability and experience, plus my own experience of a number of circuits and track days throughout the country and what you expect and experience from other track users, if he had been highly dangerous and reckless by breaking rules and putting others at such risk as this all made to sound then I would have expected a quick permanent removal rather then being allowed back out on circuit, I am unaware of any accidents that occurred, yes he was in the wrong group level wise but then I don't see you responding to 'Itsallicanafford' with a similar but 'unbiased' opinion as my own. Anyways I will leave you to your thoughts and opinions while I stick to my as you you called it 'be slightly biased' opinion. Don't get yourself so worked up over it!

It's also interesting to note that, had he had further sessions booked that day he would have been excluded permanently. They give you one warning, he received a warning, and let's face it is the Marshalls opinion that really counts. They told me they weren't impressed in the slightest and he would be excluded from any further sessions.

funny thing occurred to me regarding this "debate", the booking stage states that these "novice" sessions are for drivers that have not had any experience of track driving and want to get into the "scene". fair enough, thats why they stage these events.

now, rightly or wrongly, i booked onto the 10;45 "novice" session as it suited my plans. During the briefing we were asked if any of us had track driving experience, all but 2 raised their hands. clearly Silverstone themselves want to fill track slots and we were all accommodated and generally all happy with the event.
i take great delight in passing more exotic machinery in my humble MX5 but i also acknowledge the fact that the drivers may be new to this kind of thing and/or new to the car and as such give full respect to their driving styles, be it slower than me or not understanding lines or apexes. Others might take the view that they have "murdered" everything in their path.

be interested to hear from anyone on said session that felt intimidated or endangered by the alleged drivers style before he goes to the gallows

Brilliant, thanks Ed! I enjoyed watching that, you've captured some great footage. Very respectful of you editing out the 911's moment of pain too.

Here is my full session filmed from my focus ST.

It is the 10.10am session. Would just like to say all drivers drove really well and never once did I feel in danger by stupidity from the others in the session. Shame about the two red flags but to be honest I the car needed a cool down!!!

https://youtu.be/rBztlmxkiuI
Ha thanks for the video RickfocusST I was the GT3 and enjoyed this footage. Never get to see the outside of my car. Great fun, really enjoyed the day.We had a good little tussle. My first time out on track in this car, and at Silverstone.
That Ultima and Cerbera wer in another league though.

Fantastic day! Great mix of top motors, friendly like-minded petrol (Piston) heads, track action and a stunning array of metal in the static display area. PH Sunday Service, take a bow.

Who had the 60 plate audi S4. What has it had done to it becasue it was an absolute monster! Think it was in the 9.10am session.
KarlMac said:
We tracked down the owner of the S4 cause it look properly fast. Turns out its only had full Milltek, map and smaller pulley. Mightily impressive! I'm sure the owner will be along shortly with power figures (iirc I think he said about 475hp?)
That was me biggrin

Great to meet everyone who came over to chat about the car - even the marshalls who failed to believe that it was the still the original engine! As stated it's been tuned at MRC to stage 2 - inlet mods, smaller supercharger pulley and software take it from 333PS to around 490PS/600Nm. Anchors off an RS5 help slow it down a bit, and Ohlins coilovers, uprated ARBs, Michelin Pilot Super Sports and an optional sports diff with torque vectoring help improve the handling. Was great fun on track! Could've done with ceramics and another 100bhp to cope with that GT2 though, that thing was insanely quick.

Had great fun in my MINI in the first session of the day. Here's the vid from my car - please excuse the odd bad lines (first time at Silverstone and first time on track in the MINI) and nattering to the Mrs!! S4 was quick, but that GT2 was ridiculous!!
Jon - your Mini and your lines were mighty impressive, hats off to you. The speed you carried through and out of the corners was something to behold. Nicely done! Enjoyed your video too.

Strangely enough our 11 car Midlands convoy picked up a panda car in Banbury as well....it caused some amusement & flashing of headlights in the convoy as I was leading the merry band of PHers to the SS hehe

All round top day yesterday. I'm definitely getting out on the track next time though, I need to scratch the itch. Also to the guy in the e39 M5 I followed in (blue STI Impreza) it sounded frigging awesome!
