I went to the Le Mans Classic last year and had the absolute time of my life. Obviously the LM Classic is only every other year, so this year I'm thinking of going to the Spa Summer Classic.

The only thing is that it seems almost too good to be true - free entry for the three days and only 25 euros to camp at the circuit?!!!

I'm not expecting it to be on the same scale as the LM Classic but it's a weekend away, camping on the continent, surrounded by loud, fast and beautiful cars for next to no cost other than getting there - so either this is an absolute bargain of an exciting weekend away or I'm going to be sorely disappointed!

Has anyone here got any experience of this event (purely as a spectator, not a competitor)?

Many thanks in advance.

I've not been to the Spa Summer Classic in June but I'm a regular at the Spa Classic in May. Yep, it's confusing having 2 events with such similar names.

Seeing as you enjoyed the LM Classic you might be interested to know that the May event is run by the same people. Apart from a more spectator friendly circuit (better views and you can walk the full lap) the main differences are Spa is cheaper and features a wider range of cars (it's not only GTs with some LM pedigree). The LM Classic "Parade Laps" are also included in the Spa Classic weekend so you can drive your own car on what a lot of people regard as the best circuit in the world. That on it's own is enough to make it worth the journey biggrin

PM me if you want more info.

Cheers,
L'rs

Cheers Longers. I can't make the May one this year, but do you know whether the May one is the 'bigger' event of the two?

Been a few times, great event. We stay pass4sure 300-115 ccnp switch dumps in a guest house and walk the whole track over the 2 days. Beer and partying. Can't make it this year though :-(

So it's only a few weeks away now and I'm just about to book the tunnel crossing.

Is anyone else going?

Going via the tunnel mid Friday, camping at the circuit and leaving Monday morning. Stopping off at Tyne Cott on the way back.

Have you formalised your plans yet?

Ferry on Thursday afternoon and back on Sunday afternoon. Camping at the track too.

I'll be in a (blue) 944, and am pit crew-ing for another (black) 944. Do come over and say 'Hello' if you see us.

Definitely! We'll be arriving around 6ish on the Friday in a black 996 Targa.

Have you (or any of your gang) been before? It's our first time at this do, so we're desperate for top tips! I've got waterproofs...!!

Nope, I've never been before but the people for whom I am pit crew-ing have. I'll ask them.

I was thinking more along the T-shirt-and-shorts line than waterproofs, but that shows how ignorant I am ... !

I've started this thread which may be useful:

Where are you staying Thursday night? Is the camping at the track open then?

Swindorski,

Sorry, we're back now and I didn't see a black 996 targa anywhere! Mind you, I ended up camping in the paddock just by Eau Rouge (which was a prime spot, completely by chance) so it's possible our paths didn't cross.

I hope you had as good a time as I did though - it was great!

No bother - we were just outside the circuit on a hill near the general parking area!!! We saw your car when walking walking around the paddock on Friday but there was no one there to say hello. We also kept an eye out for the black 944 racing (Tom & Gerry?).

I agree it was an excellent, low key, friendly event with some great racing.

The track is amazing and having free access to everything - especially the bar above the pits! - was unbelievable. I'm also very pleased the weather held out and I returned with a nice tan and not a soggy tent!!!!
