What a fantastic day! The RS6 had a few issues through-out the day like the boost hose popping off twice, propshaft bearing failing and a Porsche Cayenne pushing me off the track into a cone on the straight on my 4th lap (he didn't look he just pulled over as I overtook him on the left down the straight) but I just wanted to apologise to anyone who complained to the marshals after they heard the god-awful grinding my rear brakes were making during the afternoon.

As soon as I heard the noise I took the wheel off and found the issue was the stone-guard had come loose and was resting on the edge of the disc making that racket. At no point was the braking performance effected but it's difficult to tell all 300 other owners this so I fully understand the decision to black flag the car for the other owners piece of mind.

I'd also like to thank the few individuals who came over to ask about the issue as it showed they were looking out for each other.

Anyway, I think I did around 40+ rides and everyone seemed to have a fantastic time so I can't wait for next years!

PS Pic of the offending stone guard, now removed, it's amazing the noise made by that tiny 1cm mark!

Glad it was nothing too serious mate i was stood at the back of your RS6 as you were rocking it back and forth near the end, gutted we didnt get time to have a blast in this but the kids were impatient so we only ended up going tin the landrovers which was still fun !

I'll be there with this old crate on the Rally for Heroes stand / group. Got some new R888R's to put to the test :-)

Great fun following you through the chicane with you sliding the back out clap

Great day out apart from the occasional gritting at the end of the main straight !!! I thought they were supposed to have swept the track for 8 hrs beforehand ?

Not often I post, but the OYM day is special - it's worth it.

Superb day with the Maseratis, as mentioned by others we raised well over £3k and had no issues whatsoever with any of our supposedly unreliable cars. Result! smile

Bit spoiled by discovering some people (Mr Rigby of this parish for one), turning up with a track pass a mate had emailed to them, not with any club, then using the day as a private free track day. Not taking a single paying passenger for charity, then posting a video on YouTube (since removed) boasting about their laps. I'm stunned that anyone could be such a tw@t as to just turn up, complain about the 'poor organisation - "I'm not queuing for any lanyards, that's stupid"', then use the track without any safety briefing or apparent concern for others.

Mate - the organisation at OYM is superb. The team leaders receive the lanyards AFTER A SAFETY BRIEFING, brief their drivers, and use the lanyards to restrict the number of cars on track (for the safety and enjoyment of all of us). It has never crossed minds that numpties would arrive and steal track time from the wish-kids, or punters queuing to pay a fiver to charity for a hot lap in a supercar. Of course, if you didn't come with a club, you wouldn't know any of this, or about the trucks/trikes merging with the cars, or indeed anything else.

I hope you do come again, but with a club, and burn £100+ of fuel (like we all did), destroy £1k of tyres (like many people did), face a bill for £2.5k brakes (yes, some of our guys will spend that), and all for raising money for others worse off than ourselves.

Chapeau to all the PH members who came and supported this cracking event.

Drew, I couldn't agree with you more.

However I do have a question, how many lanyards were issued to your gate ? we were under the impression that only 6 were issued to each group but unless I'm very much mistaken there seemed to be more than that operating from your gate at any one time.

The only reason I ask is that we could have had more cars out than 6 and therefore raised more money, however I think 6 each is probably a good idea to help prevent congestion, such as was apparent several times during the day.

Great total raised from your gate, congratulations thumbup

I know the three people at the startline were doing spot checks for lanyards as I got caught out on the first lap after lunch. I'd been wearing one all morning and handed it over while I popped out for petrol and when I rejioned I'd forgotten I wasn't wearing one anymore.

However "if" this event is run again next year it might be worth having a "pass check" area 20m before the start line to prevent both non-lanyard wearers and single occupants (no paying passengers) getting access to the track.

I did see a video on Youtube of a 350/370Z doing 3 passenger-less trips which I can't find anymore, is that the one people are referring to?

Correct - 6 to each gate, and thank you!!

Edit - I've read your post properly now Richard!
No, we only had 6 active cars on at any one time - we divided the day into 30 minute slots, and pre-allocated drivers to them, to ensure that both cars and drivers were rested during the day. In previous years we've had drivers doing 2 hour stints, which all agreed on reflection we needed to avoid. There will have been cars coming to and leaving the gate for the carpark without a lanyard, but not taking passengers. The exception was the wish rides, when we put three cars up there and had (I think) five on the gate. Two of the wish ride drivers didn't have lanyards, as we couldn't imagine the organisers stopping the highly recognisable noisy yellow car they'd been seeing all day! The slot system worked well (with a bit of flexibility), everybody thought it was very successful, so we will be using that again next year.

We've thought about this in the past, and on the face of it you might imagine that having more lanyards would allow a club to raise more money, but I think 6 is probably the right number. It's only 1 minute or so for a lap, and typically there are cars queuing in the pits to drop off and collect new passengers. More lanyards would almost certainly simply mean more cars queuing through the pits, and a more crowded track.

There being 12 gates, one additional lanyard would mean 12 more cars.

Yes, the video was on YouTube, of a Nissan 350Z. I have the name of the driver, but since he's suitably understood the position, apologised and withdrawn the video I don't see that fully naming him on here will help matters.

I took part on Saturday, great fun, I just wish some people could learn to use their mirrors. I found myself stuck behind a few cars that were oblivious of sometimes a queue that had formed behind them. Normal track day problems I suppose.
Got some videos somewhere if I can work out how to post them!
Anyway well done the organisers, on days like this everyone is a winner(-:

Brilliant Ian!

Had a long chat with the last passenger you had in that clip when he brought his son down to the Maserati gate for a ride. He might have mentioned your RS6. He might have used some of the naughty words again smile

Apologies for the 'slow' Maseratis on track - some only have 395bhp biggrin

One with audio reaction from a passenger in a Maser:

Must get a camera facing the passengers next year...

I like the passenger videos as, when you're driving, you tend to be very focused and unless they make a noise you've no real idea if they're enjoying it until you stop at the end. Plus it's always fun to watch peoples eyes get bigger throughout the laps biggrin

One thing that surprised me when I watch other people videos, considering the amount of cars on the track and the length of time I spent driving around, there were so many cars I don't remember seeing (Lexus 430, Boxsters, VX220's & MX-5's etc). I loved the pastel green AC, the white GT3 and the McLaren but I think I spent most time with various GTR's around me which is always an awesome sight & sound.

I was the Blue GTR in your other video, sorry for passing on the right, no space on the left and I wanted all the passengers to get their money's worth. I saw you a few times during the day, didn't know QPs could do that!

Sliding the back out? Me? Never...

To be honest it was more tweaking the car on the throttle, it's had waaaay more angle than that in the past, but I didn't want to either alarm other drivers or risk spinning and getting sent home.

On a side note did anyone else notice the absolutely shocking driving standards? - Mclaren 12c especially...

As I said on the GTR forum, didn't bother me one jot, and I can't see that it really matters on that straight - it's extremely wide. Once people have settled into their flat out run, I'd personally rather they stayed in a predictable straight line. I could see you coming, knew full well that you would easily overtake, and I'm fairly sure you wouldn't have been too impressed if I suddenly pulled across you to the right, to allow you to 'legally' overtake me on the left. smile

The QP is a very understated car, but underneath pretty much identical to the GranTurismo, which people expect to be quick. They are incredible value for money at the moment.

The surface was fairly clear all the way around for me until 1/3 of the way down the runway straight where it seemed like there'd been none done and the braking area was awful. Although if it had been done can you imagine how bad it must have been before the sweeping eek

Glad to hear it was only something simple, there is video of me panicking coming in behind you in my GTR thinking it was me making the noise. I thought I'd worm my front pads down to the metal! Luckily seth passenger realised it wasn't me and then we slowed near you to ask if all was ok and you already knew what the issue was smile

I'd intended to come for a spin in the RS6 but I just didn't get around to it unfortunately.

During the day I often asked when people got in for a lap what the fastest car they'd been in so far was and the reply was the RS6 a a good few times smile

I saw what I think was a Maserati spin out in front of a few other oncoming cars at the end of the day just coming out of the gate, typically I didn't have my rear camera on at the time to catch it on film, nobody was hurt though from what I could see, just a few underwear changes I think.

A Bit of a shame about the amount of chippings on track in the morning but a great day was had by all I'd say.

Roll on next year!

CelticWebs - I remember the look of relief on your face when you realised it wasn't your car making all that noise! I think the vast majority of my passengers had been in a GTR at some point and enjoyed it.

Do you know who the guy in the MP2 R33 with a roll-cage was? As much as I like the new GTR, as an ex-R34 owner when the R33 was behind me I pulled over to let him pass just to hear that glorious RB26 noise, absolutely awesome!

That was Paul, he's on the forums as Purleskyline, he finished the day early as the car was over heating.
