I will say, from a spectators point of view, it wasn't always easy to tell whether it was the novice or inter session that was in hand.

I was expecting to see novice sessions at a gentler pace, and inter at a noticeably quicker one with better racing lines etc.

But there seemed to be a mix of speeds and skills in both groups - maybe that was part of the issue?

Still looked good fun though, wish I could've taken my Mini on for a session smile
It was difficult to tell from in the car too! I'd booked my wife on the novice session at 11:55 because she's a novice - never driven on track before. I mistakenly thought that the driving would be less aggressive than a normal session with people having paid attention in the briefing and not overtaking in corners etc. However there were a number of times when we were overtaken on the outside of Copse and the inside of Brooklands.

Do you have any more video from the session - blue ST?

Think you went past me at one point?
Yup I have some more on track video, about 15mins in all but I cut the session short as had already done a session earlier in the day. Saving some brakes and tyres for the drive home! smile

Only reason I've not uploaded it yet... was because... well, out of embarrassment really. First time on track in the ST and I was still learning. I'll hold my hands up now and apologies if I flaunted any of the rules!

Plus the camera angle is a bit crap, it was alright when turning left, but there's only 1 left on the national circuit, so the rest of the time you get a great view of the A pillar.
Did you manage to get the Blue Impreza on camera? Not sure if we crossed paths...

A great morning this morning, thanks PH & Silverstone.

A request - did anyone get me in my DC5? I'm usually the other end of the lens, but this time I really hope someone caught me out on track!

My pics are here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskmqK7Vh

Whoever's Caterham this is, happy to have caught you making the move... smile

I do find it quite amusing the people who book into the novice event and then get irritated when not all drivers meet their standard. Just book into the intermediate session! There was an awful lot of racing in some of the early sessions - great to watch, but I wouldn't fancy having my car on there. 3-4 side-by-side down the straight at times and all a bit close by the first corner. That said, people will always want to get different things out of the 20 minutes. At least we didn't have any accidents in this one - I still think back to that Porsche and the pit wall earlier in the year!

It certainly left quite a stink down the main straight just before the oil event - I don't think my other half appreciated it tongue out

I think reading this thread tells you everything you need to know about the driving standards. The novice sessions looked complete mayhem at times and the intermediate little better. I suspect if it had been a proper track day more than a few black flags would have been shown.
I guess a taster day implies letting people have a go and have some fun, but maybe a stronger briefing about allowing people to go at their own pace, keeping a respectful and non-intimidating distance, and especially no overtaking in corners would have helped.
My time on track was disappointingly brief due to the oil spillage, but it looked in every session that there were massive speed differentials between cars which is always going to cause problems and frustration.
Maybe the format didn't help either; if you only book one session you're going to want to get the most out of it, rather than build up speed gradually during the day as would be the usual track day advice.
I seem to remember the same issues last year. It's tempting cos it's a cheap way to get onto Silverstone, but I think I'll bite the bullet and book a full day on the GP track next, and just admire the cars in the Paddock at the next PHs Silverstone day.

Hi everyone

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all who turned up on Sunday. Great to meet so many of you and check out your cars.
We couldn't have wished for better weather, although it was on the 'nippy' side at 7.45 am.
We have a load of photos and videos that we will be mashing together and putting on line in the next few days so I will let you all know, along with my review of the morning.

Just reading all your comments and I take it everyone would like more trackdays yes??!!! smile?

Absolutely yes - it is great being able to look at such an impressive selection of parked cars, but it adds a special something to the experience being able to watch them being pushed on track (along with the added smell of burning brakes and tyres that you just can't beat!). A venue with decent breakfast helps too smile.

I assume there must be more a lot more photos and videos somewhere given how many were being taken when I arrived...plus the parking seemed to be more organised this time (for the photo and video opportunities?).

Thanks again for organising, even my other half enjoyed (and she complained most of the way there!).

At least I wasn't the only one bearing the brunt of early morning complaining....even though she slept for the entire journey there (and back!)

Sounds like your skills were a lot better than those you are assuming had more experience.

Great idea in theory, but change the format. As above, one off sessions with a vast range of cars, abilities and attitudes doesn't work.
Join up with one of the more sensible trackday organisers, take it somewhere novice friendly (Bedford is the obvious choice) and run it as a full day, with properly policed novice, intermediate and expert groups, at least to start off the day.

Our pleasure, we have actually been practising our parking supervision skills recently... smile

Regarding the other half just let me know if it continues to be a problem let me know as we find that our stickers have a multitude of uses. censored

Trouble with Bedford is noise. So you'd lose probably half the field that went out on Sunday in order to meet the requirements

Hi Mike

Thanks for the feedback, some very interesting points there and ones I will definitely be raising with the team here.

rb5er, you were asking for pics of your 997, but I can't find your comment. I have these two, the latter was through the fence so unless anyone can tell me how to remove some of the 'lightness' from the fence, then thats the best I can do!

The problem with this is that it limits the number of people who are able to have a go on track, and also pushes the price-per-person up quite high. We're absolutely open to running some PH specific trackdays, but I'd suggest that these would be in addition to the format we use at Silverstone - not instead of it.

Saying all that, going by the responses so far it seems to be widely regarded as a popular SS and for the most part it absolutely did work. Perhaps we're trying to fix a problem that isn't really a problem?

As ever though, we organise these events for the community - if a majority want something changed and its within our power, we'll endeavour to do it!
