Well you are timed once you set off from the line.
So unless you literally want to "race" the other car to the line (not that it matters as your time only counts when you start moving) just ignore the green tree.

DSG Audi/VW just have ESP off. Stop completely. Gearbox into manual / sport. Foot on brake and floor the throttle.
Ok thanks. I'm thinking back to when I used to bracket race. With a quickest time dialled in for the car, and a handicap system holding the faster one back, it was always a case of hitting the gas immediately on the green (or just before it!).

Can you guess how many years ago that was?...

My car is still running, somewhat modified!:

As above, your reaction time will be slow but the actual 400m timer starts once you actually move, not when the light goes green.

So unless you're racing the guy next to you, there's nothing wrong (IMO) with sitting on a green light for a second while you get your launch right. You may as well make the most of it if the strip's busy and you're waiting a while between runs.
That would also mean you can see what the other guy is up to and keep out of his way. Even with RWYBs I'd be concerned someone over eggs the pudding and crosses the centre line. It's odd what straight line racing in front of a crowd can do to some minds and mechanicals!

However, I'm not sure I could just sit there with the green staring at me! It would go against the grain somewhat.

Attention all drag racers! I've posted a new thread so we can all see what everyone is running this weekend. If you've bought yourself a race voucher, add yourself and your car here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Usual RWYB rules state that passengers must be over 17. I assume that is still the case?

Anybody fancy a go at the world record for "fastest drag-racing furniture?"

Video here.

Slightly off topic (apologies!..)as i'm a sunday service noob, what time does everyone normally arrive at the venue?, is there a cut off point for arrival (say 10am etc?)

To quote my own post.....

Just heard back from my insurer & they won't provide cover for the day, due to the fact it is timed and therefore deemed as a 'race'.....

Anyone know of an insurer who provide a one off cover for the day? Do Santa Pod partner with anyone for this kind of thing?

Will probably not be worth doing, but would like to explore the possibility at least...

Dammit!
