The reason the S3 is so quick isnt really its power output. Its haldex with DSG.... equals a stupidly quick 60' time.
A friend had a golf R DSG... it ran sub 3s to 60mph, not just by luck, it would do it every time due to Haldex/DSG. Wouldnt have been anywhere near as fast as a manual
I'll admit I was shocked how consistent and how fast it was - I find it a bit depressing really how technology has taken over - that's progress I suppose.A friend had a golf R DSG... it ran sub 3s to 60mph, not just by luck, it would do it every time due to Haldex/DSG. well.... it's been run on three rolling roads, all within 17bhp..so not far out! Best was 358... But, it just can't put the power down nicely as it sits, even though it's got launch control mapped in it, traction control.. but no LSD. Once it's rolling it's pretty good for a people carrier! At the most recent live mapping session, when the bigger intercooler went on, it's pretty consistent power-wise, always seems to be strong mid range..but a combination of very tired suspension and not being used to launching it on Sunday didn't help! But it's still a very quick courtesy car....!

I spoke to the Zafira owner.
He was a nice guy, but he claimed 350bhp WHEEL horse power (about 380 crank?)
Based on the times I saw it was not as powerful as he claimed I believe.

It is an impressive build even more so for an MPV
As I have said in previous posts the track was very unfair on the day and conditions didn't seem the best for anyone, we were all doing horrific times lol.

From a spectators point of view, the Zafira was really struggling to grip, once it hooked though it took off well, loved the way it backfired. It is an impressive build even more so for an MPV

Id still rather have the F430 over the S3 though.... :-)

It does give a brilliant 60ft time, but it also has nearly 400bhp enabling it to reach 114mph terminal just like the cars on the list! The reason the S3 is so quick isnt really its power output. Its haldex with DSG.... equals a stupidly quick 60' time.

The S40 diesel won that one but EOS had passenger on board then later with no passengers the EOS snipped it, closer than it should be though 160bhp in the EOS 140 in the volvo
I saw that run at the end of the day - I would have liked to have trialled my Mazda against the Volvo - just about got ahead of the EOS on the first go; the second run wasn't as close as the VW bogged down. Same bhp (160) but the VW has more torque more of the time, being forced induction (240Nm from 1800rpm plays 188Nm at 5000rpm).Hi all,
Not sure if you've seen this week's Win On Wednesday that I've just set live... but it may interest some of you as the prize is a passenger ride in Santa Pod's 1,000hp 2 seat dragster... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Good luck if you choose to enter! (why wouldn't you, it's free!)

As I have said in previous posts the track was very unfair on the day and conditions didn't seem the best for anyone, we were all doing horrific times lol.
I've got 325bhp at the flywheel in the Focus and managed a 14.5@100 for my third and final run, where it was putting the power down quite nicely. Running 245mm tyres up front.
I think he was doing mid 15s? It was really hard for the chap to get the power down, first looked good but when it went into second it seemed to not like it!
Track was very harsh as I said.
I did 14.66 with a passenger which was about half a second off my cars recorded (I am 250ish fly bhp) so I reckon take half a second off your time for a "normal" time hah.
