I have sent Darren an email as the Cobra guys have decided not to run a gate this year, so I am now available to help out if needed.

Op did you contact Nigel O ? Maybe he would do it again.
Hi there, I can only ask for people to contact Darren directly if they would like to volunteer as I have nothing to do with the event, I'm just another volunteer with a PH account biggrin

What time does this go on to? I may be able to make it but would need to be back in Cambs by 4.
Also whats the surface like in terms of debris?
Quite a few of the GTR owners picked up stonechips to be very honest with you, we have been assured it will be better swept this time.

The simple way that we minimised chips on my car was to leave decent distance between you and the car in front - you are not racing, just giving a passenger experience.

Drivers were leaving at all different times through the afternoon depending on their availability.
Hope that helps

Stone chips - The worst bit is the long straight at the end where you'll get anywhere from 4 to 8 cars 50-200m infront of you all doing 100mph+ and kicking up stones. The runway has lots of lines down it creating "lanes" so it's best to try and find a "lane" that doesn't have a car infront of you and you'll be fine but that still doesn't stop the occasional driver who is braking at the end from crossing infront of you.

The purpley Mclaren last year caused two windscreen chips and a bonnet chip to my car when he was about 100m infront of me and moved from my right across me to my left under braking at the end of the straight, which was a the only time I got a chip in 2 years.

The passes for the event are starting to be e-mailed out to people now so if you still want to volunteer then please contact Darren via his e-mail in the OP ASAP.

One addition from ASDA this year is that, on the day, you must bring proof that the vehicle is Taxed, Insured and MOT'd before being allowed on track.

Again if you have any questions please contact Darren directly!

In what way are you looking for something to do? If you mean you want to bring your car along then if you contact Darren then its possible that he may have some places left for drivers on his gate.
Otherwise its invites only and not open to the general public I'm afraid to say, hope that helps.

I was not looking to give rides but to take rides, especially in Richard Breams supercharged Chimaera. How do you get on the list to be invited to future events?
Thanks
Rob

Has anybody who's volunteered for this managed to open the "invites" file that Darren sent out? My laptop won't do it and hes away and only has his phone so can't help with a different version.

l6rth - Unfortunately the day is run for a large Supermarkets own charity and only employees and their families can attend (like a big "thank you" summer party).

AdiT - They are Powerpoint files so you need powerpoint. There's a free Microsoft viewer available to download here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmat...

Yeah, that's how I got the car pass open but it still won't open the other invites one. Going to try again later. Is the info in there vital?

There should be 2 e-mails (one track-side pass and one car invite) with each one having a Powerpoint file and another file called ATT00001. This is just a text file which contains a plain text copy of the e-mail and this can be deleted.

You can open this file with "Notepad.exe" on a Windows PC, just right click the file once it's been downloaded, select "Open With" and then select Notepad from the list.

Anyone else attending this had issues with the CRB/DBS requirements? A few drivers of the two seaters that I had scheduled to attend have now dropped out, and the only CRB checked person I have available to drive is my other half.

She's only driven the TVR once before, so probably not ideal for a fast lap!

I still have spare capacity on Gate 9 if anyone wants to join in.

No specific requirement, but a few guys last year in the Atoms and caterfields provided helmets more for flying stones than crash protection.

When I googled the event, I found d a few forums with posts about it but only one mention of noise. That had a response that there wasn't a noise test/limit... only a random forum post though so don't take it as gospel.
No noise limits on the day, and some of the TVRs last year were well into the 120db range.

I'm not affected by such nonsense as I have 4 seats. If you consider that it is mean't to be a family day out it seems to disqualify half the attendees and many of the drivers from actually taking part in any of the activities. I having been driving at a well known event run on a similar basis and a high % of passengers are children and no such restrictions are in force. I think the Bruntingthorpe organizers might need to rethink that rule. Anyway who exactly is going to implement the rules, surely its has to be a qualified member of the organizers with a CRB check?

Will be interesting to see how this pans out tomorrow - I expect there could be a lot of disappointed kids and tears.

Good luck for tomorrow, and may the stone chip Gods look favourably upon us!

The supermarket involved seem determined to make this years event as difficult as possible to help with. Considering the "management" actively tried to stop this years event from going ahead (corporate mentality) I'm wondering they are hoping for it to be such a disappointment this year (lower donation figure) it gives them the excuse to fold it up?

Sadly I'm not able to do this years as my shiny new brakes which *should* have been fitted this week are still sat in the boot of my car and my current pads are far too low to last more than a few 160mph+ stops before being uber dead.
