I'm not saying that you are novice drivers but it perhaps may have given you that extra bit of breathing room you guys would have needed smile

Brakes are the most important thing on the day I think!

Luckily I upgraded mine before doing any engine tuning. DB9 calipers, Audi TTS 340mm discs and Project Mu H16 pads with fluid every 18 months.. good enough for me. I had no fade at all ..

My biggest bugbear was oil temperature, I do wonder how many people in turbocharged cars could see theirs?
Mine went from 98 (around normal) to 114 degrees within 2 laps, 120 degrees is the most I'm happy to run really. I saw 127 peak.
Anything above that you are asking for trouble, as that is sump temperature so head / turbo temps must be well into the 130s!
I run competition 10w50 oil as well (5w30 specified).

I saw several cars pounding round lap after lap and either they have much better OEM coolers than me or they simply didn't monitor/care. I will have a seperate oil cooler by Goodwood smile
When and what is the Goodwood event Jay? Does the forthcoming PH event have an opportunity for track time?

Agreed, I didn't see anything dangerous in the 10:10 session but I was getting a bit frustrated wth some powerful cars (Monaro) pulling away on the straights, braking really early and crawling round the corners... don't expect it in an intermediate session, a small lift is all it takes. There was also some great driving though, I had a great time following the Honda powered S2 Elise.

I was in the blue VX220, I had a huge tank slapper through Copse which was a bit scary, there was an E46 M3 following at the time so apologies for making you leave the track. Don't suppose you got it on video?
That was me in the Monaro. Apologies if you couldn't get by, but public track days are a bit like that with all the different cars. Technically it's up to the guy behind to make a safe pass in the appropriate place. I was frustrated myself when I caught a train of cars and backed off to get some space.

As for being early on the brakes, different cars require a different driving style. It's 1700 kilos of 10 year old highly underdeveloped Australian muscle car. Slow in fast out. But the cooked brakes and over heated tyres tell a different story to one from the drivers seat of another car, mid engined, short wheel base, sub 1200kgs. I think it's best described as having a small accident on corner entry before gathering it up and setting off down the road again.

I had a few annoyances with some people, (slow in corners, fast on straights, not liking being over taken so run right up your arse, not paying attention when I went passed em on the pit straight so run me off the road) but I had fun, the car survived and no animals or children were harmed. Can't ask for much more for £40 (and £600 worth of front discs and pads!!!!).

The whole morning was excellent I thought and what a fantastic display or different motors.
Your attitude is disgraceful Subzero, if you knew there were faster people behind you then you should let them past, and justifying it that you saw poor driving too is no justification at all.

Great event well run , even nicer when the sun came out !!! Fun on track too with everybody being well behaved (11.20 session)

Tux (green Noble)
To echo what Tux said - well done to everyone on the 11:20 session, no red flags & the driving was better than I've seen on these events previously. What happened to everyone at the end though? I was worried that I'd missed the chequered flag, the track was empty.
Green Noble didn't half shift, 'where did that come from' went through my mind a few times as he flew past!!! (Silver Elise)
Sorry it was the cool air and new Trofeo R tyres , lots of grip and she felt quick on low boost !!!

Thanks Graham for the cool photo's !!
Those 2 Nobles were awesome!

The brakes on my Black Clio 182 were cooked, as where the brakes on the white Toyota GT86. We headed into the pits and everyone followed us in!

Have to agree the folks in the 11.20 session were awesome. I had to keep an eye out for the Nobles and Caterham's as they has so much on me in a straight line. Great session!
I came in as I was running very low on fuel, (white Gtr)as mentioned tho some good driving!
I really enjoyed it (11.20 session) and the driving standard was excellent in that slot. I was in the red GT3 with my other half and had a great time. Some quick cars out there. I think that older silver Fiesta ST was mega, don't know whats been done to it, but it was a surprise to me.
Echo the above, that was a great session, the Nobles were bonkers!! i cam e in 5 mins from the end as my brakes were a tad hot. Really had fun and the driving standard was very good, would quite happily track with that lot all day.... anyone want to lend me a noble?? smile

I had a great time yesterday on track (Black 911 Cab), the car was handling great and the track conditions were good too.

The 9am session was intermediate though and although the driving standards looked generally good, having read some of the comments about the 9am session I think some people should have opted for the beginners sessions, particularly if you're going to be scared/peeved by cars overtaking you when you havent politely indicated and moved to the right.

Intermediate is exactly that and attracts a mix of skills and car performance, but all should have "intermediate" track skills, observation and experience. Sure everyone should follow the guidelines, but this is the real world. How many times have you ridden dodgems and bumped someone even thought the sign clearly says "no bumping"!

Personally I overtook only on the left and only when safe or invited to do so, but you can't be phased out by someone overtaking you in a wide corner in a faster car when you're at a track day in the inters session or really should you be there?
If i am not mistaken, you are friends with the silver turbo cab driver ?

if he hadn't undertook me IMMEDIATELY after the pace car pulled in, I might buy your comments, but given the fellow cars similar views on here ... I am afraid you, and he just has to accept his driving was not in keeping with any track day, novice, intermediate or experienced

Chris - just a suggestion - some of us are on countryside internet speeds, it would be helpful if you could you either upload smaller thumbnails or batch them into track sessions because after 10 mins I'm still waiting to see them.

Thanks. We arrived with no track time booked but jumped on the 13:35 inter session. By that time mostly every PH'er had gone home.
No noise problems this time? I followed you up from Aylesbury and could hardly hear it. Mind you, I did spend most of the journey waiting to see sparks coming off your diff. Your's looks like it rides better that Peter's black one, have you softened it off a bit?

My first SS and what a great event it was! Many thanks to the team for putting on such a well organised event and to Graham for the wild ride in the 620s caterham!

I'd be intrigued to see your onboard video lankylegohead as I was in the blue z4 in front (admittedly for a v short time!)

Also, great video NFox!

Definitely looking forward to attending future events - thanks again to all who made it happen!

Here's some of my footage from near the end of the session https://youtu.be/oz1-TEiMI_k

The sessions don't seemed to be grouped either, there are some more from the 11:20 session at the bottom of the page.

Nice to meet you mate! I only started recording about 10 seconds before the integra spin, so not too much. Then, as you were letting me passed... red flag.

Cheers all smile. Main reason for buying the car was down to the sound . Whilst other sports cars are getting quieter its great to see British manufacturers still making cars with a bit of a bark wink
Hearing you heel and toe today and the sound it was making has completely changed my perspective of the evora, never been a fan until today, top driving!
Yes Dave top heel and toeing?
Badum tish. What's the IPS box like?
LOL wish I could take claim for some fancy footwork, but alas it's a simple pull of a paddle behind the steering wheel wink

Impressed with the IPS or Auto as they call it now. The old system was really slow from pull of paddle to change of gear, but this one is now spot on. Get down to Lotus Silverstone and test drive one
My bad! Tend not to pay much attention to cars I''ll never be able to afford biglaugh assumed being Lotus it was a manual.

I was in the 10.45 session in the black 996 C2 coupe. Absolutely loved it. I've never been a fan of Silverstone because it's so flat and featureless but this was the first time I've driven it - I loved having all the run off space which meant I had a bit more confidence to push.

I thought the driving was generally pretty good - like you say, can't expect too much from a load of amateurs nailing round a circuit. I have got video footage of the full session, will post a link when I manage to upload it all.

In the meantime this is a single flying lap with no traffic... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgXKG8CSm24

I would've liked to look round the car park, it looked awesome, but unfortunately my mate seized the YB engine in his westfield (oil surge) on the same session and by the time we had taken care of that most ppl had left. I was also seing some serious drops in oil pressure on some corners - must look into improving this.

Thanks to Pistonheads for an awesome morning, look forward to the next one

I took quite a few (1000) photos of the 11:55 session, it's taken some getting through them but here's a selection, including the noble mid spin... I've got a few messages about pictures and I'll work my way through them, let me know if you were also in the session and I might have a few photos to send you. smile
