The new cameras will be looking out for anyone going 10km/hr above the speed limit in zones where the speed limit is under 100km/hr, and will snare people going ten percent above the speed limit in zones where the limit is above 100km/hr.

Police won't be involved in the camera work at all from September. And where two police (or regional police) officers are currently needed for the job, private firms will only need one person.

We've had this system in Ireland for over six years. Private copmany supplies the vans and operators. You get a NIP. Ours are located in areas of danger and frequent accidents as defined by our Police. They operate 24/7 and are not paid a bonus for getting culprits.

Some vans ( possibly not enough ) have gone up in flames, it does not pay to capture video of some people who might be members of illegal organisations or crime families.

We do not have fixed speed cameras like Gastos etc, and our police still mount some speed checks.

No, currently, UK registered vehicles could be caught speeding by civvy operated vehicles but there is no agreement between the UK and France re; DVLA disclosing info'.
Seems less likely to get nabbed in that case.

As I understand it, at present the only way les flics can get money out of you if you are speeding on UK plates is to nab you in person and levy on the spot fines or confiscate your licence if you have been a very naughty boy.

At some point in the future HM govt was going to bring in the exchange of information that would allow you to be nabbed for points and fines by fixed and mobile cameras like they do over here. This of course was pre-Brexit vote. Whether this will happen now is anybody's guess.
