OK folks... some of you knew something like this was possibly in the offing...

The owner of Dunsfold Aerodrome, a keen ex-GB pistol shot, is kindly allowing us to put on an event there that involves:

DRIVING... and... SHOOTING!

Date is 1st June... so only 4 weeks away. A Friday (weekends present problems with the neighbours on noise and might jeopardise Top Gear!)... hopefully will be a sunny one...

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE KEEN TO COME ALONG.

Events and costs should be (select from the menu and let me know what you fancy):

1. Entry and Vmax on the 2km runway (own car): £99

2. Clay pigeon shooting: £50

3. Smallbore rifle shooting: £40

4. Driving round the Top Gear track: £20 (not all-out unfortunately); can be videoed for extra cost

5. A look inside the 747 used in the Casino Royale movie: £10

6. Driving Jim's new Caterham-style sports car round the TG track: price TBC (car not finished yet but give me an idea what you think you'd pay for that)

7. Passenger ride in Jim's new Caterham-style sports car round the TG track: price TBC (ditto)

8. Passenger ride on Corvette Z06 vMax run: "donations"

9. Jim may also be able to lay on a passenger flight in an aerobatic flight (before lunch!) IF any of you say you want to do it (make a bid!).

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU'D LIKE TO COME ALONG ON 1ST JUNE AND WHICH EVENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO!

Matt

What does the Vmax involve? One run.. or the whole day banging up and down the runway?

As far as I'm concerned the latter... as long as everyone else gets a go!

Bugger! Is the date set in stone?

I'm already leaving the wife with the kids so that I can spend Friday to Monday of that week at Pistonfest. Guess how popular the time and expense of such a superb-sounding day coming so soon after would be!

You can expect at least one entry from here (Stephen), plus the rifle event

Where is the shooting taking place in relation to the airfield?
Can one enter as many or as few events as one wants?
How many have you got so far and how many do you need for it to run?

We probably need about 20 people for it to be a go-er, though double that number would be good.

There may be the possibility of later dates if we can't get enough people this time, but I can't count on that.

You can enter as much or as little as you like.

And the shooting is happening AT Dunsfold, if that's what you mean.

So that's:
1. cheeky (Vmax & clays)
2. parklane (Vmax & rifle)
3. shoebag (Vmax)
4. knight (Vmax)
5. godzilla (Vmax & rifle)
6. NCH
7. NCH's guest
8. Len Delicaet

(+ possible interest from vixpy1, fastfreddy, angrys3owner and kermit_power)

We will need rather more people for this to happen! Tell your friends...

Date isn't set in stone, but I'm not certain that we could get another one - this is all we have been offered at present.

I could be interested in all the driving and shooting events, but I think you need to put up a lot more detail than you have at present in order to attract more people.

Like;
How many laps/time/runs you get on each driving event
Any car restrictions - noise, types of car allowed, passenger restrictions
Whether guns are provided or you can/cannot use your own if you have them
How many birds for the clay shoot and how will they be sent up?
What is the format for the smallbore shooting? Range? Targets?

And lastly, whether there is are any prizes!!!

The info seems very scant at the moment and the entry fees aren't insignificant...

I'd like to participate in this, if i may. Its my fathers 60th a few weeks after, and this would make a great present for him. However, i have a few questions.....

Noise limits. All 3 cats come off the Chim next Monday. Would you be able to find out, if there are any noise limits, then what are they?

Could you give me a bit more info on the clay shoot. Its something that i have never done before, but my old man has, and he loved it. Im guessing that all equipment will be supplied?

Prices. Clay shoot, £50 per person, yes? V-Max, £99 per car?

And lastly, where abouts is Dunsfold? I dont have a map handy in the office.

In advance, thanks.

Correct on prices.

I've asked about noise limits but have had no response as yet. What noise levell does the Chim make?

Dunsfold is near Cranleigh in Surrey.

Shooting equipment will be supplied but I see no reason for people not to bring their own shotguns if they also bring their certificate.

Let me know if I can help further.

As mentioned before, multiple runs are no problem as long as everyone else gets a go, i.e. give everyone a fair crack of the whip. Otherwise I see no reason not to keep going round and round.

I've asked Jim about noise but have not heard back. Otherwise, I'm not sure why there would be restrictions on car type. What are you thinking of, specifically? If you mention it, I will ask Jim.

fastfreddy said:

They are. You may, if you produce your certificate.

fastfreddy said:

Traps; there are four stands. I had envisaged about 25 clays but would expect the amount people get through depends on level of experience. I also expect there will be the opportunity to shoot more for a smaller extra cost if there is time.

fastfreddy said:

I would expect 50m on the standard targets but it may well be 25m on a ten-bull (which I would think less likely). Most people are excited just to get to shoot a rifle!

Possibly some minor ones but I wouldn't enter just for them! This isn't a commercial venture but rather a bit of kindness on the part of one man to help his countrymen raise funds to address a shortfall from when they went to represent their country in an overseas rifle shooting tour. That does, of course, mean that the standard of coaching from the volunteers is likely to be very high!

They are an awful lot lower than you will find for anything similar elsewhere, and deliberately so. I hope you and some friends can make it!

So it's a fundraising event? You didn't really make this clear.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the cost or the fact it's fundraising, but it would have been better to put all of this in the OP so we know what the event is all about and what we'll be doing on the day.

It would be nice to know which team we'll be helping out and what event they are taking part in. There are several GB shooting teams and lots of possible events they may be going to...
