we bought 2 tickets but only got one sticker

Crucially (for me) it is children of "12 and under" who are free. The distinction is only important if one's kid(s) are 12.

But my worry is that he looks around 13 or so, despite being 12½. In the absence of a child's wristband I'm wondering if I'm going to have to have him carry proof of age around for the whole weekend (which he will probably lose )

I shouldn't worry about it Jon, in my experience of this int he past with mates kids, once they are in, they are in.
