Daz,
I see in the results thread you have posted that the timing beam read much higher than your GPS - is my interpretation of your posting correct?

I always used the left lane, so I could use the extended braking area. On previous VMAXs my GPS (Same unit for 3 years) and the timing beams have been in sync. At yeasterdays run, the left beam was indeed showing 186 whilst my GPS was showing 181. I can't comment on the accuracy of the right beam.
Can't really comment as i only used the left lane once (always the longest queues) & it wasn't a full speed run, however when i left Brunters at around 15:15, i went down the left lane & through the left beams at exactly 85MPH on my GPS (set cruise to be sure) & the timing beem actually said 86MPH, but i'm sure a 1MPH is a narrow enough margin, so i'd say it seemed fairly accurate to me, unless of course at blistering speeds it struggles??
This is where you are all hiding. Again a virgin Vmaxer and pistonheader all in one. Had a great day and thanks to Craig for organising. I was in the silver 996 Turbo with rather loud exhaust, and was well pleased with my max 182mph. We left just before the rain came again in the afternoon, so don't think we could have bettered this time.

Just Back from an Excellent day at Brunters.
Happy to say im now in the 200mph club
Caught a 202 in my final run against the 9ff in my Porsche Gt2 DMS 600 Conversion. (actually 608.5)
I might add that this was with the wing ON and on standard Bp ultimate.
Big thanks to Craig and the guys for making today happen,
And an Even bigger thanks to Rob @ DMS For making the car sooooooo quick .
Excellent speed sir! Which lane were you in? Happy to say im now in the 200mph club

Whichm when you're crouched on a corner, with you ear at exhaust level, really is quite loud Nice sounding motor that - been tinkering...?

I bought the car with the Techart exhaust on it, and as far as I know that is the only tinkering that has been done. Although after talking to Andy (Fearnsport) at Vmax, that may be about to change. Were you taking pictures / video at the corner in question, as don't have any pictures or footage as yet, and would love to see/watch some?
Cheers

I'm editing my video now. I should have it ready in the next few days. I was all around the event with my camera so i'm sure I caught some footage of you. Towards the end of the day I was in the bottom corner before the long straight so if you drifted down there I might of captured it.Cheers

I think you all might be assuming that every GPS-based speed measuring device is as accurate as the next. That's not the case.
If you compare something like a VBox, which costs maybe £5000 and a £99 speed trap detector or hand-held GPS navigator, you are likely to see different results. A lot of it is to do with the software these things run as that's what calculates the speed accurately. GPS data only contains positional information (obviously, as the GPS satellites don't know how fast you are going), so the accuracy is dependant on how well the software interpolates between samples and lots of other factors.
Also, there is a certain amount of 'lag' built into GPS devices. So if you cross the timing beams and look at the GPS speed at that point on the track, it is possible you are actually looking at the speed the car was doing several metres behind that point.
As long as the timing beam was set up properly and calibrated, I'd trust that over everything else, because it is measuring the actual time the car took to cross the beams rather than collecting positional data and calculating the speed from that. But if you are going to compare the timing beam with GPS then use something expensive like a VBox, which is designed to do the job very accuratley.
