Caring With Cars: 9th July 2011

Spend a pleasant Saturday in the company of some nice motors while doing your bit for a good cause. What could be better?

PHer V8S has witnessed plenty of successful South West regional PH meets over the years, but has always felt the area was lacking a big car-focused event.

Still, rather than tut under his breath at how his region never catered for the car fan, he decided to organise one himself. As first events go, this is pretty special and, to give him a boost, we're giving you the full low-down on the first-ever 'Caring with Cars' event, which takes place at the Children's Hospice, Charlton Farm, Bristol on Saturday 9th July.

Gates will open from 10.00h until 16.00h and the format is relaxed and informal with a static car display for both PH members and fellow enthusiasts alike. In addition to having a great day out, the aim is to raise funds for the hospice while enjoying a jolly nice day out where the cars really are the stars.

Entrance is free, but the organisers will be fund-raising on the day and you can also donate to the hospice by visiting the Just Giving page. ALL money donated will be given to the charity.

The Children's Hospice (South West) venue cares for over 1,000 terminally ill children, and provides full long-term support to their families, and the people there have been kind enough to allow 400 cars to access their grounds to create a spectacle for both the attendees and the children who stay there.

The event is being held in the grounds of the Charlton Farm hospice in beautiful countryside just a couple of miles from the M5 near Bristol. There is therefore easy access from Wales, the North, London and the South along the M4 and M5.

Attractions include:

  • Registered cars ONLY with a maximum of 400 cars
  • Free advice from advanced road and race driving coach, Mike Cooper
  • Special area for particularly interesting/rare cars
  • Charity raffle
  • Quality catering on-site at fair prices

To reserve a parking space please add your name to the event calendar here; admission to the parking area will only be granted to those who have a spot numbered from 1 - 400.

For more information, donation details and location please visit the Caring with Cars website

The event is exclusively sponsored by:
Bath Audi and Bristol Audi, who will be displaying an R8 Spyder and other PH-worthy Audi models on the day.

Address for sat-nav: Charlton Farm, Charlton Drive, Wraxall, Bristol BS48 1PE
Or simply take Exit at M5 Junction 19 (Gordano)

All PHers are welcome, but as it says in the article we have to limit this to 400 cars... at least for this year. We're hoping the day will become an annual event and grow larger.

If you have a rare or very interesting car, please contact me through my PH profile and we'll see if we can squeeze you into the special area. biggrin

Cheers all - hope to see you in July! thumbup

This will be a great day and for an amazing cause - nicely organised Graham, I know how much effort has gone into this.

I can't wait.

Great idea and good work Graham.

I think I'm working nights that weekend (in neonatal intensive care as it happens) but I'll come along if I'm not working.

Wonderful idea, very deserving charity, good luck with the day. Bit far for me in NE England though!

Is it 400 cars, but unlimited attendees? ie.. park in Bristol and get a bus?

Fair way for me as well, being not too far out of london. Isn't going to stop me coming to this for such a deserving cause.

Graham, good man for putting in the leg work and organising this.

As a PH member, just get signed up on the calendar and park at the event. If it passes the 400 car mark I'm sure there will be a reserve list. I think the nature of the venue will mean that on-foot attendees will have to be limited for various reasons.

Graham

In the organising & planning, I guess youve been up to the hospice a couple more times......

....So is it safe to follow you this time ?

Just kidding

It's never safe to follow me - for a start, you'll get fumed-out or showered in sparks, or I'll be trying to get flames out of the back and blow up my engine.

Bring your spare keys! wink

I have just registered on PistonHeads but have been a frequent visitor to the site for sometime now.

I have also registered for this great cause / event, but only if you would allow such a humble, unassuming car as mine (a 2005 Honda S2000) attend I would love to be there.

Rob - you're a PHer. You're welcome at meets whatever you drive, and an S2000 is rather cool anyway. Get thy name on the list, chap. biggrin

Oh, you have. Excellent.

You missed the bit about people needing to duck to avoid bits of throttle cable pinging past their ears biggrin

We'll bring our spare keys too (which I won't be allowed to have) getmecoat
