Hi

In the past I've always plonked an engine in, changed the capacity and engine number on the V5, sent it off to the DVLA and thought nothing more of it. Since the conversions always involved newer engines into older cars, emissions was never an issue.

Just recently, I've been reading in PPC mag (and other sources) that some changes are coming which will essentially mean an SVA test will be required after an engine conversion.

Can anyone confirm this?

Current system requires independent documentation to confirm the new engine details : http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicl...

I haven't heard anything about an IVA being required, but independent inspection is one of the options given in the link above.

Thanks for that. Not as bad as I thought then.

I installed the engine myself, so I guess I can just get my 'friendly garage' to create an invoice for '1 x Engine' on their headed paper and send that off with the V5.

Nice one!

Rather than a deception all that is needed on the headed paper is an inspection report.
"vehicle xyz inspected to confirm engine type xxx, engine number 123456 is fitted."

This is what I was thinking because the car's original 2.9 litre 12V VR6 engine has been removed and replaced with a 3.2 litre VR6 engine from a Golf R32. No alterations to the car to accomodate the new engine are required at all.
