We have a 2004 grand scenic 1.9dci, we have had a few problems with it but it is now cutting out and is a complete pain to try and drive anywere last night we went out and by the end of our road it had cut out 3 times, error codes we have point to a knackered egr valve, that has now been blocked with a blanking plate and a knackered glow plug that snapped when I tried to replace it. these are the only error codes and I think they should not effect the running of the car.
What happens is that it runs very badly and cuts out, sometimes it will rev whilst at a stand still some times it will hardly rev with the throttle fully open the revcounter crawls around to the red line, then if you tried to pull away you still have no power
last night we got about a mile from home and turned around, then as we got home it ran like it should so we went out and after sitting for two hours it started and ran ok, with ont or two hiccups on the way home
Today my wife has left it at home and walked to school as it was playing up so much
I am a qualified motorcycle mechanic but not a diesel one
Any ideas?
Ta

I'd check for air in the fuel lines. And price up a crank/cam sensor. Will it idle ok?

These Renault dCi's are also known to pop turbos if the EGR valve isn't functioning correctly. It relies on the cooling effect of the recirculated exhaust gases to keep the turbo running at a sensible temperature. They are a lovely, smooth engine when they are running properly, but incredibly highly strung and temperamental.
You are doing the right thing getting rid. We spent £,000's on ours before ultimately reaching the same conclusion. The car wasn't even 4 years old. A basket case of a car.
