ZF unit from a BMW 5-series. Should I expect it to be worn out at 126k or are they more durable than that?

If it's done 126k miles on the motorway, driven by someone who never rags it, the diff could be in perfect condition.

If it's done 126k miles of C roads, driven by a Mr A.Vatanen, then it's probably foobared.

If it's cheap enough then perhaps it's worth a punt?

Already punted. £150 which seems a bit of a bargain. It's a complete 525i sport diff with the right ratio so I could bolt it straight in or give it to a transmissions bloke I know for a once over which will at least double the cost. Or I could have him refresh and upgrade it to better than new! Decisions decisions...

They are generally pretty robust as long as, as above, they are not abused.

Do an oil change USING THE PRECISE CORRECT OIL, then side-step (proverbially) the clutch and see if you lay down a number 11, if you do, then happy days.

And, before anyone bites my head off, yes, I know you can see if it is working with the wheels off the ground, but doing the above proves it is working correct under load conditions.

And I also mean in a safe environment obviously too.

Two litres of Tetleys sourced from Opie Oils last week, naturally being Tetleys I won't be drinking it ;-)
