bulb advice some nice bright H4s?
Discussion
looking for a suggestion for some uprated bulbs for my mk4 Mondeo.
it runs stock reflector headlights with H1 mains and H4 dipped.
recently changed both dipped and mains to Osram nightbreakers which were fine for the 2 weeks they lasted before failing.
cant say I was that impressed by the light output either. what i'm looking for is a suggestion for a brighter and whiter light than stock (or indeed the nightbreakers) whilst keeping myself firmly on the right side of legal, ie I wont be fitting a HID kit or non emarked bulbs.
ideally I would love to uprate to a set of projector equipped headlights but that's the thick end of £400 even second hand so bulbs it is.
what do you guys and girls recommend?

Ive found most of the claims of these super duper uprated bulbs as a load of crap.
Although on the flip side, half the bulbs available in motor factors and elsewhere are complete and utter dung and do only last a few weeks in some cases.
Really no easy answer
Ive just been using bulbs from TPS ( VW Trade parts people, Quantum brand ) for the past while and found them pretty decent.
I do a lot of miles and usually drive with my lights on in the hope that the blind fkers out there might actually see me instead of pulling out in front etc...really doesnt seem to make a difference.
But so far the Quantum bulbs are lasting longer than most Ive tried.

I'm not being smart about this but I have been using the special offer bulbs from Lidl for several years and I've had excellent service. I think they are Tesla brand, made in Germany.
I would not recommend projector lights. I had a pair and they were great for a few years, then they went dim. They looked as bright from the outside but when driving there was no light output. I took one apart and found that the space around the bulb is very small, being a projector, and the heat of the bulb had eventually burned the reflector to black.
BTW: Are you sure about those bulb types? H4 is a twin filament bulb, that would mean you have two main beams in each lamp cluster, four in total, according to your description.

DV my mutex bulbs arrived yesterday nice crisp white light output which only really comes into its own on dark country roads, seem good so far
Sardonicus I've just replaced a set of night breakers, lasted all of 2 weeks before dying on me
Nice light off them and good bulbs maybe I got a duff pair ?
