Benefits of getting valve clearance done

Oddly enough I have two versions of the workshop manual, one says 110k or adjust when noisy (which seemed far too long to me) and the other says check every 30k miles which is far more reasonable.

That would make sense, I'm fairly sure it was done on mine at some point in the first 50k miles. I have a vague recollection of being asked to drop it off the night before for that one?

even the 30k sounds odd especially as they were on 12500 mile intervals
