Hi

I have a Vaux Combo 1.3cdti (55plate) with a P0106 fault code which is Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure range.

the spanner light comes on a few seconds after starting while the van is still at idle and after three starts changes to the engine light the same code comes up and there are no other codes. Apart from that seams to drive ok but I did notice a bit of a rattly noise from the front of the engine could this be a sign the timing chain is going or just diesel noise. All this started at first start-up a couple of days after a 360 mile run where the van appeared fault less and no MIL lights.

I cleaned the MAP sensor no effect.

Replaced with one from scrapes no effect (don't like fitting these sorts of part from scrapes as they may be as faulty as the one your replacing).

ordered up new unbranded MAP sensor from Euro car parts will pick up tomorrow but at £16 will this be any good?

My EGR valve was removed and thoroughly cleaned a few months ago refitted new gaskets and van was performing great.

The waste gate actuator lever seams free enough moving it with a pry bar.

Has any one had this fault and could give advice on other causes, good diagnostic techniques, decent replacement parts, and generally things to do to keep these engines going.

Cheers

The £16 map sensor was fitted and cured the fault so at least I know it was the MAP sensor but after taking the van for a good blast on the motorway it failed in less than three minutes. After checking there was no voltage output from the sensor. I returned it to Euro car parts who refused a refund as it had been fitted, I argued it was not fit for purpose but they sill refused, they seam to operate out with the law. Anyway they offered a credit and said would supply an FAE sensor I'll pick it up in a couple of days. are FAE sensors any good?

I can't see the map sensor itself being at fault, maybe your on to something with the timing chain issue or a vacuum leak of some description.
