Heya all.

I am not very mechanically minded but asking on behalf of my stepdad.

He has a 03 Fusion 1.4 diesel which bellows out black smoke from the exhaust. Everything is caked in black stuff under the bonnet. He cleaned up the injectors and seals a few days ago with his friend in Wales, drove 300 miles home and it started bellowing out smoke again.

Hes looking at it now and its all black again, mostly around the ones on the left hand side.

If anyone has a clue on what's going on with it that would be helpful.

Thanks

Not sure what you meen by cleaned the seals? you have to change them to stop the leaks, a kit only costs £30 ish for all 4 BUT make sure you DO NOT touch the injector tips !!! a quick clean with some carb cleaner is all, i can't stress that part enough, the tips are very fragile, i would also change the injector clamp bolts at the same time or they can come loose after.

Ahrighty, I'll let him know what you said. One of the bolts has snapped from the casing on them also, would this be a problem? Thanks

If it is a clamp bolt then that will be the cause of the new mess ? they stretch and need replacing but you can re use them if your carefull not to retighten them too much.
The new seals are a sort of warped copper washer and as they are clamped by the injector they straighten out and seal the head, the plastic sleave just keeps the injector centred in the hole.
these are what i use not from this seller, i get them from a diesel specialist.

Well, now he can't even get the cover back on, there's 2 bolts down the back and they will not line up. The whole thing rocks when you push one side to the other like something isn't sitting right. The 2 bolts in the back they forgot to put back in when him and his friend tried fixing it in Wales. They had 2 left over and didnt have a clue where from. Now he knows where they go, do you think under heat it's all moved out of place because those 2 bolts where missing?

I know the problem wink
you put the rear bolts in first then the front ones pull the front of the airbox down, if you do the fronts first the rear are half a hole out and the bolts wont go in, the airboxes warp with the heat over the years, every one i've done has been like this, snug is the word lol
