My first post!

I bought an Audi A4 B8 TDI 170 bhp, diesel, manual from new. After ~18 months (15K miles) of careful driving I noticed a judder and then found out about the world of DMFs frown

I had it replaced FOC under warranty and also had my driving assessed by an advanced instructor to be sure that it was not my driving style. I don't accelerate hard, ride clutch, strain in high gear and press clutch for engine start and stop. When slowing down I brake and skip to the relevant gear trying to rev/engine match or into neutral when stopping. Double clutching seems OTT!

18 months and 15K miles later I've now noticed (especially with a full car) that a light judder is returning only when pulling away. The car is now out of warranty, besides they must be thinking its driver error for the 2nd time!

I've been driving for 25 years incident free and put 100K+ miles on VWs with DMFs (before knowing what they were) so I just don't see how its my driving style... Could there be an underlying issue - say engine alignment?

I now over analyse every gear change and I find the A4 gearbox unforgiving / very tight bands where its happy when changing down a gear. Also I notice when pulling into my drive from the road, after a blip of revs in first and then press the clutch, there is a slight feel almost like the load coming off the flywheel dumping its momentum.

Its my first Audi and really disappointed. I could keep changing the DMF every 15K miles but that seems crazy! But its cheaper than buying a new car.

At 10K miles/yr I don't really need a diesel so a petrol would have less torque to cause damage. Would like an auto but the DSG/S Tronics have DMFs and their own issues.

Can anyone offer any advice please (response from Tame Technican would be cool!)

Thanks
