Hi,
application is a 4x4 with Rover V8 running EFi. The present fuel system comprises:
Stainless steel tank (very very clean)
Copper gauze filter on the pick-up pipe
Canister type pre-filter on the Facet solid-state pump (the type supplied with the kit)
Clear plastic housed paper element filter adjacent swirl pot inlet (easy diagnosis of fuel supply faults)
EFi pump to metal-housed OEM filter then to fuel rail.

This works well until I use fuel from a jerry can - not often but occasionally necessary, I usually use a filter with a gauze to get petrol down the filler neck.

The gauze on the pickup pipe doesn't seem to trap much but the facet filter loves to get blocked (it's job I guess!). This filter is a PITA to change because the pump is below the bottom of the tank so I usually get a small petrol shower whilst wallowing under the car.

I was thinking of using an appropriately guarded glass sediment bowl (like Series Land Rovers use) but am concerned that it may not catch the particles that the present PITA filter does.

Any suggestions (besides not using jerry cans!)?

Sounds like a fairly low power/fuel flow setup ?

Should be easy to stick a 6-10 micron filter pre pump without any worries.

ie one of the many OEM style in line filters, large metal body

Hi Stevie,
yes, low power in PH terms...probably little better than standard 182 bhp (or perhaps closer to what Land Rover used to quote!) plenty of torque when it gets sufficient fuel.

Thank you for the suggestions.

There are aftermarket filters too, stainless etc...but it is hard to beat proper OEM style paper elements as far as filtration goes.

Large the body the better.

And yep, normal jerry cans suck ! Plastic jugs are better or stainless jerry cans.

Whatever possesses makers of jerry cans to paint them with crap inside that falls off and makes the fuel dirty ?

Hi,
having changed the pre-filter twice (and hope all the dirt is now accounted for) things seem to be OK.

Any reason not to use a glass sediment bowl?
Do they not filter finely enough?

I like them because you can remove the bowl, flush bowl and the gauze then refit - all with no tools required.

I've never used one, but I guess if they do filter well and flow well, I guess no reason why not ?

What sort of filtration level do they claim ?

OP, use one of these. Install between tank and the pump. Filters are changeable. Does what it says on the tin.
