Just asking for thoughts or previous knowledge on the problem my E83 is experiencing = For the last 110k miles the water warm up cycle has been smooth and quick like within 5 miles of driving the water temp gauge needle is steadily climbing to sit static at 12 o clock all day long winter and summer.

On my way to its last BMW main dealer service the needle was rising to 11 o clock and then falling to 10 o clock all the time on the 32 mile journey. With only warm air from any of the cabin vents regardless of how high the temp was set to.

During the service no fault codes were found and i was told it is a wet gauge and should fluctuate, After a week of short journeys i took it to a small independant BMW guy who tested it and it showed a max of 70 deg water so changed the main water stat and he thought all would then be well.

But it is still the same if you call for a max cabin temp the water temp gauge needle will rise to around 12.30 o clock with only mildly warm air not hot air and then when you call for a low cabin temp the needle will almost instantly fall and cold air will follow.

So any advice for the next step please = EGR water temp stat or change the electric water pump or both or is it something else all together,

Also last night when i switched the engine off a dash warning light came on then wnt off after around 10 secs for a low engine oil warning so i dipped it this morning and it is full to the max mark, have driven it today and no warning light could it all be related ?
Thoughts please

Ive no experience of this engine but the part about the needle should move sounds bks to me.
Every car ive ever owned happily sits at a set temperature as you described unless sat in traffic for long periods.
It utilises an electric pump instead of a belt driven pump does it?

Thank you for the comments, and yes apparently an electric pump, a quick goggle states issues expected 80 / 120 k miles with fluctuating water temp fix = water pump, states, etc. Perhaps the shellack coating inside the water pump motor may have started to break down so the wated pump is not being correctly controlled hence max water temp of around 70 deg. Thoughts please ?
