Please Help!!

I want to convert a Citroen C15 Campervan from a Manual to an Automatic Gearbox.

It has the 1868cc DW8 Engine. I know I can source a Citroen (maybe a ZX) with an Automatic gearbox to use as a donor vehicle.

Is it a straight forward job? What exactly would be involved?

Is it a job that a regular garage could carry out or would I need to find a specialist?

Can anyone recommend a mechanic that would be capable of carrying out the conversion? ....I live in Warwickshire but would be happy to travel anywhere in the UK to get it done properly.

Manual from automatic is fairly simple, but I take it you know you will also need an automatic ecu which may not be allowed for in the wiring loom.

It may be much easier to buy another with what you want.

Thanks andylley.

They never manufactured the Citroen C15 as an Automatic so I would need to source another Citroen vehicle with a DW8 engine to use as the donor vehicle. Would I be able to use the the ECU off that?

I dont think a C15 would be technically advanced enough to have a gearbox ECU but autos often have a lot off parts not fitted to manuals one that springs to mind being gearbox oil cooler and piping possibly built int radiator, these sort of parts would be very unlikely to fit if off a different model of vehicle. Ive changed quite a few vehicles from auto to manual but never the other way.

The oil cooler pipes are very simple low pressure and just about any oil to air cooler fitted behind the grille would do,
You would need to work out how much electronic gubbins is on the auto box and maybe use part of the doner vehicle's wiring loom , also the auto box might be bigger so you may need to check that it will fit the space avalible, the mechanical bits should be simple enough..

as others have suggested a suitable donor vehicle may well be the way forward and transplant engine, gearbox and elastrickery from your donor into the C15 and then 'trim to fit' with regard to the front suspension and drive shafts etc ..

In other words very big very expensive job.

You would probably be better to find an auto campervan to change to.
