is this a pulse (x per rev) or a sine wave form?

Mine is an EDIS-6 from a BOA Cosworth - I need to purchase a new rev counter as old one osed with distributor is not compatable (did not work anyway)

You can use a box of tricks to simulate an analogue signal for the old school tacho, I use
EDIS on an RV8 with a digital to analogue converter this will give you an insight http://www.dainst.com/info/edis/edis.html

Autosportslabs has a diagram for diodes that take a signal from the cool pack to old tacho
There are usually 3 places to get a signal from, EDIS, ECU & cool pack with diodes

If you want an horrible jumpy tacho the diode route is fine frown (didn't work for me an many others) if you want the tach stable you need to build a simple circuit to simulate the output to drive the tacho correctly from the EDIS module IDM pin wink
