Hi guys and girls I'm a newbie to this forum my names Jordan and I've recently purchased an A class. The car's beautiful it's my first mercedes I've owned low mileage really clean motor, however it's recently developed a problem, when you move the gear selector into drive or reverse there's a nasty judder or bang happens most the time. Now when you drive it's fine going up and down the gears, so I ran my DIY code reader with is not the most expensive system going and received two codes both p0600 cleared them and they simply come back. I did some research on the Web and came across Lofty's home page talking about the FTC/ECU being problematic so I've drained the gearbox pulled out the suspect Part and sent it to the recommended people ( ECU testing Ltd). Now it's been looked at and they told me it's beyond repair nothing more was really said as to why. I need help in what to do next is it a case of buying a second hand box from the same year and engine size and just a ecu swop, or will it need to be programmed or reset? Im fully experienced to do most the work myself just not programming or anything similar. I would be really grateful if anyone can help as I'm completely out of options, best to ask you guys. Thanks

These gearbox's aren't the most reliable. You will probably find that the gearbox will need to be overhauled as well as repairing the ECU, don't put a second hand unit in as it will probably be in the same conditiom.
