Mick,

I agree with you, I too have seem many welded hydraulic fittings, I work in hydraulic panels with pressures up to 720-bar. I am not suggesting for one minute that these pressure are the like of those in a power steering system.

The welded fittings I come across are NPT screwed & TIG welded 316 st/steel, or even super duplex and whilst I have never said it is not possible, I have said that I would not do this in a hydraulic system in an engine bay. The ones I come across are made in very controlled conditions like those I described in my original reply, and under those circumstances I would trust such a construction, but no other.

I have seen hydraulic failures, and the results of poor hose make-up, poor fitting make-up, incorrect spec tube & many others & it, quite simply, is not worth the risk under these circumstances.

I should remember that precise wording if I were you, it may just come back to haunt you!
I doubt it.

The part that shocks me about my PAS system at least....is the connection to the rack is a simple push fit with an o-ring.

If anything was to fail, you'd think this would be the first !
