Broken front spring. I've been saying there's a clunk from the front right quarter for months now but would anyone listen? The farm track has snapped a spring. 10 days to fix it for a free retest. The only minor problem being I don't have my coil spring compressors to hand. Any easy way to do it without those?

If your coming anywhere near E.Yorks your absolutely welcome to borrow mine, but given how cheap they are it wouldn't be worth posting or coming specially for them.

I thought you had a garage, and you don't have a spring compressor? Also not sure you'd be entitled to a free retest as there's measurable items to do on the retest plus it has to stay at the test station, otherwise it's one working day.

I have to admit, I have never had to pay for a retest except for one time when it was my fault for not being able to fix it in time.

Must have done well over 100 tests for friends family etc over recent years, at least half of which were failures needing retest.

I do have a garage! A jolly nice one it is too with workbenches, lights inside and a chicken who sleeps in an old tyre. Her forte however is mainly in the egg laying department rather than the suspension repair one. And neither of us has a coil spring compressor. However, there ain't much Davie the farmer next door can't fix when he puts his mind to it so I'll have a chat with him.

Just for the avoidance of doubt I asked the nice man at the MOT centre to scribble "no retest fee within 10 days" on the paperwork. My main issue is getting this bloody jury service out of the way so I can actually fix the car. I had to go there again today for a second time, sat around again for an hour until we got told there was a procedural problem and we all had to go home again. Have to go back tomorrow for a third stab at it and if I get selected for a trial next week it could be a right nuisance.

Better than a coil spring compressor any day. Every garage should have one.

Make sure there's plenty of tread on that^^ tyre. You don't want your chicken to aquaplane unexpectedly in wet weather........ ;-)

I admit I'm extremely taken with my little chuck. I've never lived anywhere that I could keep them before but living in the country, down a farm track, miles from anywhere is a million times better than the suburbia I've always been used to. I don't even have to pay for chicken feed. There's always tons of barley lying around at the farm where it gets mixed in to the cattle feed and the waste that blows around is plenty to keep my chuck and Davie the farmer's ones well fed. So the eggs are free basically and one a day is plenty for me. I gave half of them away when I had three chucks. The other two chucks that the fox took last month slept up a tree on a low branch and got spotted but sensible Clare has always preferred the safety of the garage so she got overlooked.

If your not done for contempt of court, and let's be honest if you don't have a row with the Judge the rest of the jury are in for an interesting time. when the case is over do a small crime that is likely not to attract a custodial sentence then you'll never have to do Jury service again
