I've got a crank, rods and pistons from my old Impreza.
I was going to turn them into a lamp - but will the crank and rods rust?
Anyone got any idea of what to treat them with? eg degrease them then spray with lacquer?

Bare Ferrous metal does indeed rust.

Largely depends where you will place them

Warm dry environment inside a house ? It'll probably survive quite a long time before rust would be a concern.

But of course such metal will rust.

The taste police will get you long before the rust becomes an issue.

Probably true.
Got to point out it's going to sit in my study, not in the sitting room where non-petrolheads hang out!
