Ive got a 2007 1.6 V50 turbo diesel yup the pain in the arse one that cokes up ect ect .... now for a couple of weeks its been down on power and a load screeching noise along with a lot of wastegate clatter.

The other day as going round a corner 10mph and there was a bang and I ground to a halt and it was blowing white smoke. Its turns over as normal (cambelt) sounds ok but nothing. Nothing out the side of the engine and no leaking oil.

Anybody got any ideas ?

I did i had the turbo hoses of and checked the play in the shaft all good ... it was spinning fine ... even changed the oil and filter and run the oil through a pair of tights for debris nothing .. had a feeling the wastegate chatter was EGR related. Just had to put a new DPF in there as that fell to bits and new discs and pads all round ..... not impressed

quote off net as don't know engine.

''White smoke means that the diesel fuel is not burning correctly due to a lack of heat in the combustion chamber. This unburnt diesel contains minor toxins that may sting your eyes.
This problem may be caused by:
• A clogged fuel filter
• Incorrect injector pump timing
• Worn engine (low compression)
• Water or petrol contamination of the diesel fuel.''

White smoke is oil burning, on the engine and from your description i'd bet the turbo has failed. The screeching and lack of power are because the bearings have been starved of oil.

Due to the wonders of that engine you will need a whole new one, just changing the turbo will result in it failing again in short order (no one will warranty it if you don't put a recon engine in anyway!)

Well got it going last night on brake cleaner spraying straight into the turbo ... it wont even fire normally .... plugged it in and got PO335 crankshaft / Po652 sensor reference voltage B circuit low / P2458 Diesel Particulate filter regeneration duration ..... just had a new Volvo one !!!
anyway took the bottom panel of and looked up and the wiring harness that goes from the rear sensors and starter round the rear of the bell housing
has chaffed and melted into one !!!!!
