Hooke joint installations
Discussion
Hi,
interested to know why all the hooke joint installations I've seen on American built vehicles use u-bolts to retain the bearing cups whilst the UK (can't speak for elsewhere) seem to prefer solid flanges and retaining the bearing cups with circlips.
The latter method appears to be the stronger of the two.

Like a universal joint ? Hardy Spicer ?interested to know why all the hooke joint installations I've seen on American built vehicles use u-bolts to retain the bearing cups whilst the UK (can't speak for elsewhere) seem to prefer solid flanges and retaining the bearing cups with circlips.

Some do, some dont. It makes more sense for them to be easy taken apart though to replace the joints when needed
They're probably more common in the US as there are more vehicles using them, doing harder work and higher mileage, so makes sense for them to be easy replaced
