Terraclean by Ed China
Discussion
Somewhat interesting episode of Wheeler Dealer last night and that XK8 (the one with the stupid numberplate s10nby or something?)
Anyhow I see on PH we've talked about the terraclean system before but inconclusively as far as I can tell.
It seems Ed was really doing a bit of an advert supposedly HC figures were decimated by the process, I find it incredibly hard to believe it worked like that and probably it was cold at the beginning then warmed up and op temp at the end (HC dropped from like 500 to 50 or something)
Was thinking about taking my XJR over there, dyno on the way, emissions test at his garage before (when warmed up from the drive) and after, then dyno again on the way home.
Waste of time? Or is there a chance it'll have a positive effect?
I rev it up hard and often and rarely drive in traffic, usually >80 miles per trip, often 200+ so definitely not a victim of driving miss daisy.

there's a video on you tube about sea foam which i guess is the same idea but a different method, In that the independent guy doing it did that boroscope thing.
I guess you'd really need to do some sort of dyno before and after and some sort of mpg comparison too as well as the boroscope thing.

And yet....
I had an XJR which used to trigger the engine warning for inefficient cats every day or so, I used to just clear it with a code reader.
After about 18 months I eventually replaced the cats with some sports ones thinking this would solve it, it worked... for about a day.
Back to clearing the code every day or so.
I wanted to sell the car and not wanting to sell it on with any issues I had my local specialist put the car through a terraclean , cost about £90.
Sold the car three days later, with no sign of the light coming back on.
Not conclusive I know, but that was the longest it hadn't triggerd the engine light for 2 years.
What a fecking pain these messages are, apparently the newer EU emissions regulations mean the ECU checks things and triggers at much lower standards then before, even if there's not much actually wrong.

er, why?Your EMS flags up "inefficient" catalysts by measuring the oxygen storage capability of the catalysts. It does this by monitoring the post catalyst exhaust oxygen content verses the pre catalyst oxygen content, which is my modern cars have two sets of lambda sensors (pre and post cat)
I'd bet you £50 that to "fix" the issue, the garage just fitted some cheap(<£10) spacers to the rear sensor to move the tip of the rear lambda probe out of the exhaust stream and bingo, no MIL...........

Wow, that's a cool cheat! Better than the electronic filtered upstream signal.Your EMS flags up "inefficient" catalysts by measuring the oxygen storage capability of the catalysts.
