Opening a turbo-charged car up when warm'ish
Discussion
As this was an isolated incident, the engine was semi warm and you only went to 4k. It's highly unlikely this has done anything bad, however if this is done a lot (or worse i.e higher revs, even colder) then over time it will have a detrimental effect on the engine...
It's also worth remember that your temp gauge is showing coolant temp, and coolant warms a lot quicker than oil. And in this context oil temp is more relevant than coolant...
What car/engine is it?

Well knowing a few VXR drivers I guarantee this is far from the worst abuse it's had in its time! lol unless you've had it from new that is?
Remember there's two main reasons why it's bad to paste a car before it's fully warm... The oil isn't at the correct temp to provide proper protection, and every engine component is a slightly different size/shape before it's properly up to temp.
I'm not sure what's available for GM cars but in my A3 I have a race diagnostics liquid gauge (look it up perhaps), and from that I can tell the exact temp of pretty much anything, even air intake temp!
I'll never drive on boost until my oil is at least 70c... And that a long time after the gauge on the dash shows that sort of temp

First time tonight I opened my car up when temp gauge was on 60 degrees, (usually 80 when warm),
Was a little blip in 1st gear upto around 4000rpm, then same in second... then driven normally...
Oooh you're a bad boy and no mistake. You really like to live life on the wild side eh? Do you ever go swimming within two hours of a big meal? Run with scissors? Take paperclips from work? Was a little blip in 1st gear upto around 4000rpm, then same in second... then driven normally...
So what did you do today that was really awful Dave?
Well I revved my engine to nearly two thirds of its redline when it wasn't quite completely hot. But then I'd never have managed to run that f**king hobo over if I hadn't gunned it. Another notch on the front bumper. Oh yeah baby.

Everything seems fine!
Just paranoid as people say never to boot a turbo car until its hot!
