Hi there
I've got an Audi R8 with the 5.2 litre v10 engine. I just noticed some very fine silvery metal shavings on the inside of the exhaust pipes.
Has anyone had this before or know what it could be?
I've had a good scour of the internet and the only thing I could find was possibly a cat problem.
The car is only 2 years and done 2k miles which is a bit confusing!
Cheers

I have seen this when cat converters shed their coatings.

Bad news or just to be monitored? It's so new it would be unusual to have a knackered cat..
Cheers

Only a problem if it fails it's test I suppose.
I have seen it on a few customers cars on the rollers. My own Jimny that we use as a 'works' car only does about 500 miles a year and we use it on the rolling road if we are doing any bitting and bobbing testing things. I think the lack of use allowed water/humidity to attack the coatings which appeared down the ramp to my unit as hundreds of tiny very shiny particles after a rolling road session!!!!

Sorry for the bad news but I'd be worried. Especially on a new & expensive car.
If it's only 2 years old, is it still under warranty?

Yep it's still under warranty, also Audi just passed it a years mot early so the emissions aren't a problem.
Maybe I'll take it back and see what they say.
What a pain!

A dealer selling a car with an MOT really doesnt mean much.

Last 2 vehicles I bought, my van and an old Volvo both had MOT's within the past few days before I bought them and both had very obvious defects that should have been a fail.

There is no way any genuine/honest MOT tester would have passed them.

That isnt to say your car will fail....but dont rely on an MOT having integrity.

Spoke to the 'master technician' who said to monitor things and he'd never heard of that before...didn't fill me with confidence
