We have an old 02 Ka that we've owned for over ten years. Its been a reliaible old thing and only really needs a good service annually and a front lower arm or two a year.

Ran late for work this morning and mistakenly put Diesel in it.

Drove 20 minutes to work, and thought Id killed it. Ran like a sack of shyte and sounded like it was about to rod itself.

Not had chance to look again, but Im hopefull of draining the tank and refilling with Petrol and all will be good.

What do we think guys ?

Draining the tank and refilling with petrol is the first step + fuel filter
Must of smoked like a coal fired power station

HOWEVER

2 lower arms a year???

Most aftermarket suspension parts are ste...I'd easily believe 2 a year depending on make

As for fuel, drain it all out, replace filter etc and get it running again.

As soon as it is running drain and replace oil/filter too.

cheers guys, about what I hoped. Luckily I only put a tenner in as its the dearest garage around.

Bottom arms seem to be a consumable on this one, as do upper front mounts - happily cheap and easy enough to replace.

Im guessing the knocking was just dire precombustion or similar ?

Just hoping ive not damaged the old girl.

Siphoned the tractor engine fuel out and put proper fuel in.

It was a little recalcitrant to start, but then picked up and ran cleanly.

Took it round the the block and all seems well. Slight hesitation on pick up and a tad lumpy but Im hopefull that the old girls ok.

Lesson learnt !

The plugs will almost certainly be fouled , and for what it cost I'd treat the old girl to a new set wink

Ah, but thats because this engine uses something called pushrods, and this means the "valve clearances" need to be actually checked once a year.....

A friend of mine did that about fifteen years ago in a Volvo 340. He brimmed the tank with super unleaded and then spent the next week or two driving around making smoke like he was attempting to escape from the Bismarck. No ill effects in the end.

They eat lower arms, top mounts and steering track rods.

The eat st pattern parts, genuine ones would not need to be replaced yearly unless you were rallying it.
